Hey. Back again with some questions. My friends and I seemed to have run across a difficult problem. The armies i am allied with are fighting mainly swarm armies, and we all have small units. Heres the team info:

Lizardmen
Bretonnian
High Elves

VS

Orcs
Beastmen
Vampire Counts

I know vampire counts doest really count as swarm, but with the necromancers ability to raise skeletons back again, i just threw them in there anyways.

The last battle i had was devastating. 1500 each side, but we were outnumbered at least 3:1. We just couldnt handle so much. (plus the fact that my friend was using fanatics, a definite cheese in my opinion)

My question is, i have 3 jungle swarms currently in 1500. I have not used them nor proxied them, but my friend brought up the idea of replacing them with 3 Salamander Packs. With up to 30 hits, he tells me they will be a great addition to my army instead of jungle swarms and that they are a more efficient unit than jungle swarms if i am fighting swarms. <_< that came out bad.

What would you suggest? Thanks.

I have to agree- Salamanders are your best bet. Getting some extra hits on enemy units will cause many a death.

Its gonna cost me A LOT for 195 points. But if it helps, ill get it.

I have another set of questions if you dont mind answering:

1) What exactly is the main roll of Jungle Swarms?

2) What are some key units against swarm armies?

3) Finally, in 1500 lists, how many points should i allocate to my scar veteran, and what are essential items i should bring for him in every game?

Ill update my list to include salamanders instead. Thanks for your help.

1) The main role of ALL swarms is holding the enemy. With their unbreakableness they will just stay there with their big amount of wounds for a few rounds, which give you the opportunity to flankcharge for example.

2) Flankcharges i guess, but lizardmen dont have much fast cavalry.. I got some trouble with 'em skaven meself :/

Dunno about the 3), but advice for fanatics: Terradons. Just fly them close to the night goblins and there you go, loose loonies in the orc army.

Zombies, beastherds, and goblins all die horrendously to salamanders. Definitly take them over the swarms.

Salamanders over swarms anyday. 15 pts. can be taken out easily.

Put your Scar-vet on a cold one if you have a cold ones unit to put him in. If you don't have cavalry, put the scar-vet in a unit of Saurus.

As for items, I always give mine light armor, shield, and Scimitar of the Sun. Give him Sotek and he has 7 attacks @ Strength 5 when charging, 6 when not. Give Quetzl and he has a 0+ save.
You just can't deal with my infinite nature, can you?

yess i agree sallies r loads better vs horde armies than swarms as swarms r usefull to stop a unit of enemy death dealers (chosen knights, saurus cold one riders, savage orc bigun boar boys, inner circle knights etc) and sallies cause fear so they can make stuff flee as well since most horde armies have low ld.

It just depends on what you use 'em for. Jungle swarms are perfect for holding up enemy units (like knights, especially units that don't hit with a lot attacks) with the jungle swarms you'll get the oppertunity to flankcharche (example...with kroxigors, I think no unit can hold that long) but on the other side, the salamanders hit very hard against T2 units, I never take salamanders in battles against T4 armies, but they're still good enough against T3 armies (like elves)

What could possible need swarms to hold up something for it?
Let's see:
Carnosaurs and Cold Ones move fast enough.
Saurus are unstoppable for enough time.
Skinks are meant to be shot anyways.
Salamanders and Stegadons can help themselves.
Terradons move WAY TOO FAST
Temple Guard can't die.

All swarms get you is a flank attack.
You just can't deal with my infinite nature, can you?
