I have not ever used a slann before, being carnosaur inclined, but i bought the model today and was wondering a few things. I plan on using the slann as 2nd gen, because they are just so powerful, so here are my questions.
1. How viable is it to use a 2nd gen slann, fully kitted out BSB to 625 points, with a bodyguard of 20 temple guard, in a game as small as 2000pts. I know it's an all your eggs in one basket kind of thing, but could it still work?
2. What kind of heroes do you put in a list with a 2nd gen slann? I was thinking maybe 2 skink shamans and a JSOD, the JSOD cuz theyre fun and the skink shamans because it would be cool to completely and utterly crush my opponent in the magic phase
3. Is a slann used more effectively at 2nd level casting like 8 fireballs in one turn, or less more powerful spells?
4. Overall, do you think 2nd gen slann are worth the points?

A 2nd gen slan takes up a lord and hero slot, so you can only take 2 other heroes with him. I've found that 2 level 2 priests is wicked. If you can get lucky and roll atleast one of the damage spells with no range limitations from the lore of heavens with each skink, you've just added a ton more power to your magic phase.
Give one a diadem of power and maybe a power stone/dispel scroll to the other and for 285 points your magic phase is just plain sick. Don't forget portent of far helps your shooting too, not just close combat. I really like all the spells from Heavens, but if you can aim for the forked lightning and thunder bolt you can pretty much threaten any unit on the board.
For a 2250 army you still can get alot of models after this. 20 skinks, 8 krox, 3 terradons, 20 temple guard 3 salamanders.

I use 20 TG with shields and War Banner with my 2nd gen Slann who is the BSB with Totem of Prophecy. Its a 1000 point unit and its worth even more to the opponent.
I take a skink priest with 2 dispel scrolls for important spells (pit of shades) and so I can spare dispel dice to use as power dice.
