I have never seen a lizardmen army without skinks and sine its kinda quiet here I thought I would see if there is any body who doesn't use skink barring skink priest or war chief or chameleons
Chances are no one won't use skinks as a shield the army needs there speed and distraction to even compete as the only other troop is slow and can easily be shot to peices or charged plus they(skinks) are the cheapest body in the book, though i do think over doing them is not good as i use two units of 10 as flankers/sheilds depending on terrain.
Frankly if your taking a lizardman army without skinks you are doing something very wrong. Even if creating a fluff army based around saurus you would be hard pressed to not include a unit od skinks.
In game terms they are a must for holding up, march blocking and herassing enemy units, with the options to scout, meaning you can contest and guard areas of the board from the get go. All this and poison to boot, fo as little as 6pts a model, and although to be taken with a pinch of salt, latest roumers is that they will be able to take certain marks and be cheaper with the new book release in march.
I'm pretty deadset on a heavily saurus based list (to the detriment of its killiness), but even then i have found that i always end up throwing in about 20 of the ugly little snots. So i've voted always, as i've yet to take a list without them (with my extremely limited experience).
Like everybody else here I too believe that the skinks are essential for soaking up the shots or just generally annoy/distract your opponent with them. Just to manipulate your opponent's attention most of the time with such a cheap unit is what I find a pretty neat and fun way to play lizardmen.
In effect, you need those saurus to survive that long slog across the battlefield, preferably unscatched to be in a place where they really shine; Close Combat.
C'mon, they're built for it!
Skinks do all the dying. Saurus all the fighting
A lizardmen army with no skinks in it is like, bread without butter; they can't do without each other!
Have you never heard of bread with chocolate spread the spread being salamanders and chameleons but I agree with you

Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
"who doesn't love the little fellas that protect your big boys whit there lives and are har hit at the mean time?"
Ahh, who couldn't laugh when a Manticore's Terror caused both my blocks of Saurus to run off the table as a hardy unit of Skinks stood firm and killed the damned beast with their blowpipes?
I's always take at least 2 units of Skinks... Usually 3 to fill out my core with nice cheap lizards so I can spend the bulk of my points on the Lizardman's awesome Special slots. 2 loads of Krox, Terradons and ItP Sauraus.
They're cheap, they're core, they're difficult to pin down, they're death incarnate to monsters and "Skink" is a really cute word.
They scout, they march block, they screen kroxigors, they have poison hits, they're cute (in a reptilian sort of way). I love the little b*st*rds!
Temperature regulation is overrated.
I am a confessed skinkophile. I have used lists with nothing but skink based units and I know I'm not alone..
