I was having a look at the new army book yesterday and came up with what I thought was a pretty cool build for a skink chief:
staff of the lost sun
With this you get a pretty good harasser that is also quite good at mage/warmachine hunting. The terradon mount is better than the feather cloak because for about the same points cost you can fly through woods, get a boost to armor save for being mounted , and can drop rocks as well.
I have not fielded him this way yet, but I imagine I will have decent success flying around behind enemy ranks zapping things with the staff and being able to stay alive with a pretty good armor save and the ability to fly into woods to escape danger.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
For the greater good.
it looks like a promising combo, i shall try it out as soon as i get my book.
may the old ones be with us!
the only thing I would point out is while the BS of the SChief got better, the staff is still fairly difficult to hit with due to it's poor range, movement and multiple shot modifiers. I think you're probably better off with a javelin, then you can still afford the killing blow sword or shield of rebound magic missiles if you took a regular spear. The Stegadon helm is also great if you want to boost the rallying ability of your terradon unit. The helm and a regular shield give you the same save as the enchanted shield.
There are lots of builds, it's just how to fit all those crazy characters in the army list that's difficult.

when you put it like this I can agree at my full conscience.
maybe change the wields to:
burning blade of chotec
I think that's good, but I don't know.
Thought stealer!! Check my army list!!!
Just kidding, it is a good idea as dropping rocks and shooting the staff should kill a wizard in one turn. D3 S5 hits plus up to 3 more S5 hits should kill any wizard in 1 turn. The problem with him is that he isnt too great in combat so I dont think he'll be a sure bet in a fight with a dwarf war machine crew. He still has 3 S4 attacks (I think) and a good AS but I think "Wizkiller" is his main role.
To those who question the Staff's range, just think about the Terradon. It can fly 20" a turn and land in forests. I think if you fly 20" and aren't within 16" of something you're not deploying right. To march block you have to be within 8" so 16" should be a breeze.
I think this build (maybe with K will replaced FSoD as the cost is the sme but you have mor magic item points available. It still sucks that Priests can't take terradons (or so the rumours say) otherwise you'd have a "Terradon Telepathy" attack with a Slann!!
Roban: I think the TSoD (Terradon Skink of Doom) is more a wizkilla and nuisance than heavy hitting character. I think the Burning Sword is a bit wasted as wizards dont wear any armour. The mirror shield could be very cheeky as you can fly up the TSoD so the wiz can see it and look as though you got your distances wrong (maybe declare a charge on 1st turn or something), wiz fireballs->you reveal your item and bounce it back->wizard fireballs himself->wizard dies.
Oh and btw I'm copyrighting TSoD.
