Love the new slann now I have points to spare for an army
Hate him absoloutly hate him a cheap master of magic????
with the new slann much cheaper and much less powerful(but much cheaper) than the old slann. Was doing that a good idea on GW behalf. Do you prefer the old or the new slann. I think I prefer the new slann but with a less powerful slann it is not as fluffy.
Also how are you equipping the slann my slann goes as follows:
Lord Chalec of the 2nd spawning: Focus of mystery, focused rumination, Soul of stone, Harrowing scrutiny, Battle standerd bearer, Divine plaque of protection, Cupped hands of the old ones
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
I am not a big fan of the new slann. The fact that he can miscast, has no bonus to dispel, and has less wounds really hurts him in my book.
Depending on how I wan to use him, offensively or defensively, determines how I equip him.
Offensive: Free PD, Whole Lore, Regen, Power stone, Dispel Scroll, Cupped Hands of the Old Ones, BSB
Defensive: MR3, Discard 6's, Plaque of Tepok, Dispel Scroll, BSB
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
yeah i dont like it
hes a slaan there suposed to be godlike beings masters of magic
hell now teclis is probly better
skinkss smartss wess killsss allss enemyss
Well, I may not like the Slann, but my level three priests have been a great help to the wizened old frog!
hmm got the book today. Maybe not as fluffy but you can pack more in your army now.
Speaking of pricey, the Skink priests got damn cool now.
I like the new Slaan, he's actually affordable now and you can build an army around him. I like free power dice, knowing an entire lore and re-rolling miscasts. He's pure magical firepower, while the Priest on an Enginer covers defense.

Never played the old lizardmen so have nothing to compare against, but from what I have seen the new Slann lost a couple of abilities but really gained a LOT more flexibility and can potentially be much better than the old one if you want it. There is now the option for a cheap Slann that isn't great, or an expensive Slann that is brilliant. Wait until people have a few battles and try a few combos and you will see some really good stuff appearing. I think the new one is cool, though I did like the idea of generations that the old ones had.
I won't be using a Slann anyway, so it doesn't really bother me, maybe at 3k I will consider including one, but may be too many points. I prefer the old blood on carnosaur for my army.
I'm not too offended by the new slann, in fact in some ways he's improved in my opinion. Yeah, I think the staff of sorcery should be 30pts but most of the book's point costs are off in my opinion anyway, so I'd just be complaining more.
Miscasts don't bother me. I figure it's just part of using magic. If I didn't miscast everynow and then, well, magic would be too powerful in my opinion.
When/if I use him, this will probably be my loadout : Free PD, BSB, Discard 6's, Uranon's Bound spell
Plaque of Tepok & Whole Lore are maybes. I don't think they are necessary, it just depends on what I give my level 2 skink priest accompanying him. I think the Temple Guard are allright, but I'm not sure how many I need to take to be effective.
I like the old version of the slann more then the current one. it's current magic capabilities are vastly reduced in power compared to what it was, not having the +1 to cast and dispel in addition to the extra d6 to cast is saddening but not too bad I suppose but having to roll on the miscast table? Even with the upgrade to re-roll the result, heck Slann didn't have to roll at all before. Less wounds and one less toughness make it so much more vulnerable and practically require you to put them in a unit of temple guard or Saurus Warriors to be safe.
However I do like the Discipline of the Ancients and the Slann are still fairly good in magic. Honestly what the slann have lost and gained tend to even out and Slann are alittle cheaper point wise. While I like the old Slann more, I do like the current Slann, except with it comes to Mazdamundi and Lord Kroak which are just not any good for their point costs considering they don't get to freely choose from the Disciplines, such as "The Focused Rumination" is almost crucial if you want to be good in magic.
Warhammer 40k: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights, Space Lizards (wolves), Kroot, Witch Hunters, Dark Eldar
Warhammer: Lizardmen, Empire, Vampire Counts, Brettonians, High Elves, Skaven
My guess as to why Slann are no longer immune to miscasts is that the old Slann was designed in 6th edition when miscasts weren't as scary - so being immune to them became better in 7th - in 7th edition magic is meant to be somewhat risky.
