Just a question as another Forum member has explained to me that Blowpipes are treated like normal shooting and take a penalty for moving, 2x and for long range. I was under the impression they were thrown weapons and as such don't suffer the penalty for moving or long range.
Can anyone help in clarifying this?????
Yes, Blowpipes do get a -1 penalty, just like shooting whilst moving, target behind cover, long range etc. That is only if you chose "double-tap", you still have the option of a single shot without that penalty. It represents the difficulty of the skink shooting the blowpipe in quick succession; you get more shots but they are less accurate, sound reasonable to me
I'd only go "double-tap" if it means I'd still get Poisoned Attacks, everything else the darts do is just a very small bonus, aim for the vital 6+ mark and you'll be fine. Besides Poisoned Attack is all we want out of blowpipes.
Hope this helps
"double-tap" only works with poison at close range. At long range you would need more than sixes, which is not possible. So, only "double-tap" at close range.
Yes thats what I was wondering if it would suffer long range and short range penalties. Because in the rule book it doesn't say it is a thrown weapon, however people at my hobby store are saying it counts as one and does suffer those penalties, and they've been playing since the very first edition of warhammer.
so i dunno.

Ok so i've looked it up and I don't think that Blowpipes suffer the long range penalty nor do they suffer movement penalties. because if you look under thrown weapons, darts are included in that. and if you look under the rules for blowpipes it says that they shoot poisoned darts.
This is the reason why everyone here was telling me that they don't suffer these penalties. thus its 4+ to shoot them 5+ to double tap and 6+ with the stand and shoot!
If you look at throwing axes it says "Rule: Thrown weapon", same for javelins, and throwing axes, which of course everyone would assume is a thrown weapon, but they still put the rule in.
Blow pipes don't have the rule-thrown weapon-so they don't meet the criteria. The closest thing in another army would be the gnoblars in the ogre kingdom book. They have the weapon "sharp stuff". The item specifically says "2x multiple shots, Thrown weapon."
This has never been in a lizardman book, and I can't believe they would have forgotten to put it in 2 editions. But since it doesn't have the rule thrown weapon, it can't benefit from that rule.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
answered you on the ancient blowpipes page. they can benefit from the thrown weapon rule
blowpipes don't have the thrown weapon rule at any point of their description. page 49 of the lizardmen book in the skink chief entry.
skinks hit as normal with a -1 for multiple shots. that is assuming they want to fire with multiple shots of course, the choices is 100% optional.
they can choose to shoot once and not take the negative modifier

[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
I know on instinct* that the Blowpipe is not a Thrown Weapon, so suffers the penalties from shooting as normal.
Hey, the LM can't have everything. The skinks in particular are there to get shot at, their blowpipes are there so that they have something to shoot back with
* Instinct; as in the fact that the blowpipe as a weapon, is not literally hurled into the enemy (It'll look silly if the skinks threw sticks at the enemy )

ok are you kidding me
1. the blow pipe has nothing in its rules about being a throwing weapon
2.it makes no sense for it to be a throwing weapon throwing weapons would in most cases be all about how strong the person throwing it would be blow pipes have nothing to do with how strong someone is
