I was wondering abuot the new Kroxigor/ skink mixed unit.
Everyone seems to say this was a huge mistake and is bad. But nobody seems to provide any reason. So is there any reason as to why this would be bad??
I mean if you take 3 kroxigors you have 24 skinks.
you'd get +3 rank bonus, probably outnumber and if you give them a banner you're going into combat already at +5 CR so why is it such a bad idea to have them and why is everyone against them???
Just want to know if there is some crucial bit of information that i'm missing. hahaha
LOL thank goodness i'm not the only one!!
hahahaha I was beginning to think i was going nutty.
I dunno though it seems theres a lot of people against this for some reason. I just want to know the reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaha
Maybe the naysayers are worried that the unit, while having a good move rate, will be a bit ponderous. As all they can do is wheel, a 3-Krox unit of this kind will be harder to maneuver due to its size.
Myself, I think its something you have work into your army's strategy.

true it would lose some mobility. but like you said I think it just has to be worked into yuor army strategy cuz I don't think its such a bad unit
The biggest problem with it is how flimsy Skinks are. The enemy can just focus on killing the T2 models with a shield and hand weapon to rack up CR while the Kroxies just can't keep up. The idea has been growing on ==Me== recently so I think I'll give a shot to 17+2 Krox or 16+1 Krox as a relatively cheap ranked unit with a little extra punch.
Don't send these guys against the Kroxies' usual targets, heavy armor, as the Skinks will get wiped out. Use them like you normally would use a cheap ranked unit, only you're more likely to win thanks to the Krox.

Thats a good idea. I've just been trying to decide as to whether i should take a mixed unit with three kroxs in my list or just go with two units of 3kroxs alone.
But you raised a good point that the mixed unit won't be able to take out the big guys as easily
My problem with the unit is that all the bonuses that you get are offset by the negatives.
The first bonus is that you can take kroxigors as core. This doesn't help much as with the points cost of our units, you will rarely use all your special slots anyway.
Now the skinks add some combat resolution. This is offset by the opponents gain in combat resolution gained by killing the squishy skinks. This is probably a net plus as with movement 6 you should be able to get the charge, which with the krox, should allow you to kill most things prior to any attacks coming back. So you end up with a big bonus to your initial combat resolution and will probably break most things.
But after doing the initial combat, the big issue comes with the inability to turn. You are probably giving your opponent 2 turns to position and charge the unit in the flank, with will be devastating to the unit. And if he happens to get the charge on you initially, say with a hard cavalry unit, you could lose a lot of points as the skinks die in droves.
I just think it will be really hard unit to use effectively in a lot of battles.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
good points. I'm tempted to try using the mixed unit but maybe i'll hold off from trying it out in the tournament.
Well the other thing i was thinking of is taking a unit of 4 Krox.
and then 2 units of 10 skinks with one Krox in each unit.
But i dunno if that would be effective or just a waste. haha
add all those negative together plus the fact that most people will be expecting or watching you try to maneuver a charge and you get a stinky unit in my opinion. Why put the 2 together and risk getting overrun or beat up in combat, flanked, etc. when you can use the cheap skinks to redirect the enemy and get a flank charge with your kroxigors. Using them seperately makes so much more sense and keeps you from getting into stupid situations where you might make a mistake.
Kroxs have been nerfed. Period. I don't know how many times I've charged ogres into something and they haven't hit at all, or wounded and then the enemy cav unit saved. Our Kroxigors are just expensive ogres.
At least with str7, those chaos knights and chariots, war alters, etc didn't get much of a save or if you landed a blow the enemy had a hard time getting up from it. Now if you flub your rolls, a lot of enemy cav units will bounce back and stab the kroxigors.
A big unit of skinks with 3 krox won't be able to get out of it's own way.
A unit with 2 has a chance, but can still get zinged from a cav charge or easily flanked, since it can't back up or turn.
A unit with 1 krox might as well not have any, bc you're only going to average 1, maybe 2 wounds if you're lucky.
