How has the new book fared for you. Has it helped, has your army been completely changed, do you prefer the old book and finally has your winning record improved or gotten worse. For me it has done wonders. My slann has improved vastly and the magic items are great. Also the engine of the gods was a stroke of genius. All saurus 11 points is great. What do you think.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
Overall I like the new book except I think they should have made the Razordons exactly like the old Salamanders and given the salamanders hits if they flame template blows through a unit.
I love the revised rules for basic saurus warriors, a bonus to their armour save and spears giving even more attacks have brought alot of woe upon my foes.
Warhammer 40k: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights, Space Lizards (wolves), Kroot, Witch Hunters, Dark Eldar
Warhammer: Lizardmen, Empire, Vampire Counts, Brettonians, High Elves, Skaven
personally? pretty darn well.
so far i've been lucky enough not to suffer any defeats with 2 solid victories and a draw (bretonians and dwarves with the former and high elves with the latter). my own army wasn't really damaged by the new book really. if anything its got better ^_^
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
Never played the old book so can't compare.. And still haven't had a battle yet. I am having some trouble list building, the armies are very small when you put in couple of characters and a steg or two. I love carnosaurs, but I'm not sure if I want to lean toward magic or not. Mybe at 3k.
I am quite scared of facing chaos mortals, especially with my combat list, both armies will have the same advantage but chaos will be better. Other than that, I am loving the models, and finding their painting fun and refreshing, and looking forward to charging onto the battlefield for Lustria.
I had my first game as Lizardmen today, I was overall impressed with their new rules. I lost both stegadons though >.> That was to bad rolling though. All in all i like the new stuff.
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
I haven't played with my new list yet (and won't for 3 weeks or so). Though my new list seems to feel better theoretically.
I have been playing lizardmen since 99 and also their first edition and i think the book is good but really the slann is worse than he has ever been against a casting demon army or vam count army i have really struggled . I have played 22 games with the new book and i have have only lost once and it was to a demon army with 2 special char. and a bloodthirster in a 2250 game . the sarus in this edition are very good and the tempel gaurds are fantastic with there str 5 against hard enemys and using hand wep and getting a 2plus save in close combat against weak enemys. another thing that bothers me is the lack of str and the point costs of kroxs to build a unit of them is expensive and they get no banner and if u want to put them in skinks u get a unit thats hard to monever and the enemy justs kills weedey skinks and wins the combats because of it most of the time and to put 3 in a unit costs in the 3 hun point range and for that u r much better just to buy a big unit of sarus .But overall the new army is almost incapable of beating a demon army and its a tough battle against vam counts but there still near the top in the warhammer world
my problem with the new book has nothing to do with me winning or losing, it has to do with the fun of the game. Realistically, there are still only 2 types of core units (skink skirmishers and saurus). There are a few special choices, but both have gotten worse (terradons and kroxigors are still useful, but not a bargain by any means and the kroxigors lost any "flavor" or difference they had now over just being ogres essentially)
Chameleon skinks are still too expensive and lost the only rule that made them worth taking to begin with. Temple Guard are almost considered a character choice, since taking them without the slaan is hard to justify the expense pointwise. They are only worth their points with the slann (they should have got stubborn without the slann).
The rare choices are really not worth taking (why take a steg when you can take an engine or a warspear steg)
We essentially have 4 choices of troops and a couple of different character builds (carny vs slann) which makes for boring list making (one of the funnest parts of playing the game imo) Everyone will really only have a couple of different lists. Almost all of them look very similar in many ways and most of the will have similar character builds and it really boils down to magic or carney, 3 stegs or 2. Warspear or engine. Very lackluster in my opinion. The old book was more fun to play in my opinion because of the different options and spawnings, etc. Yes some things have gotten better, but what they could have done, was write a NEW book, instead of messing with an old book. If you're going to make models, give us rules that make using those models worthwhile. Use your imagination when writing or get someone who has one.
