Which one do people think works better; the plaque of Domination or Becalming Cogitation?
They both run about the same amount of points, they are both anti-magic items and they both work fairly well in theory; though they rely on dice rolling.
So which do people think is the best choice?
Pro: 24" range
Prevents Irresistible Casting
Forces the use of more power die per casting attempt
Con: Only affects one wizard
Doesnt prevent casting by wizard, just makes it harder
Plaque of Domination
Pro: Affects all wizards within range
Can, potentionally, prevent all spell casting
Con: 18" range
Most spell casting characters have fairly high leadership, so stupidity test failure is going to be rare
Those are my pros and cons, anyone have anything, and reasons why they choose one over the toher?
The plaque has more general use. Works great if you have a slann with the lore of death. Can potentially pull units out of position for charges. Lowers the dispel dice needed in a round or two so you can save your scrolls. I would take it over the cogitation for an all comers list.
Becalming cogitation works well when you are facing one powerful caster. Warriors of chaos level 4 casters with tendrils and gateway is a great use for cogitation. This I would take if I knew who I was facing and if a high level caster was coming.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
I prefer Becalming Cogitation myself, It seems to me that with the prevalence of magic heavy armies nowadays Cogitation will be useful more often than not.
I also like it over the plaque because it cant be negated or anything. You merely say your targeting a certain wizard and they can't do anything about it. With the plaque on the other hand, I can't ever count on my opponents to fail a stupidity test, especially with their higher lord level casters.
All in all, I think both are good against all comers and the cogitation doesnt depend on your opponent failing a test.
"I am the architect of fate!"
Cogitation is my choice. The opponent (in 2k anyway) will only have one powerful caster lord level, the rest will onyl be level 2 and are generally nowhere near as harmful. Negating 6's for the lord caster hampers their magic by a lot, and is especially god because it is one of the very few things that can prevent an irresistable.
