Just wondering as to what you guys think on Lizardmen to a new player to wfb.
I am yet to make a start on my army and therefore making sure I buy the army right for me.
Dwarves are shooty
Chaos warriors are fighty
Where does Lizardmen lie and what are the particular tactics for the army?
liardmen are boring -
I'd advise against it. I would get a more "we can do a bit of everything" army like dark elves, empire or something along those lines.
Lizardmen models look really cool, especially if you like the Aztec theme. Their gameplay is pretty varied, they are probably most renowned for having powerful magic, among the best in the game though it costs a lot of points. If you want a heavy magic army, they would be high up there.
There are also large monsters, dinosaurs really, with the stegadon and carnosaur. You can take several stegs in a list (though too many is unbalanced) so there is the option for a monster heavy army if you like that.
And there are heavy skink armies, you can go with basically nothing ranked up, it will be a hard list to play though and for a skirmish army Wood Elves are probably better, though will have less numbers.
Lizardmen could very well be the most mid army in FB: Not horde, not elite, not ultra magic (unless you take the slann) some skirmishing, some monsters. And they look very good, especially after the latest update.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The basic answer would be because you like them. You want to play a lizard army because the models look cool, you can see yourself enjoying painting them, and the armies special rules appeal to you.
We can have a potent magic phase, though not the best. We have good block troops, but not the best. We have some shooting, but not great by far. We can be very maneuverable.
The negatives are that we aren't the best at anything. Our magic items lick for the most part. And using the big monsters will eat up the points quickly.
The major caveat is what level of battles you plan on playing in. Lizards are more fun to play in 2k+ games. Below that, things aren't quite as interesting.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Try to ignore Buckero0, since the LM book has been released he hasn't made a single positive post in this forum.
Anyways, I like my lizardmen, they can be pretty magic heavy, or pretty good combat units. We have good fast moving skirmishers and amazing monsters in the form of our different stegadons and the Carnosaur. They also have an absolutely amazing army wide special rule.
The main thing I like about them though is their fluff and the fact that they are dinosaurs riding dinosaurs.
"I am the architect of fate!"
My kid loves the look of them and is dying for them. He looks almost sad as he paints his dwarfs from Skull Pass haha. I'm starting to feel for him I may crack and get him a regiment, Bucker says LM is boring I cant imagine how they could be anywhere near as boring as Dwarfs.
dwarfs aren't mega boring but it was the permanent 3 inch movement that put me off them
I love the look of the lizard models and I think that the skink chief models are some of my favourite ever mass produced models, with Lizardmen you can paint in whatever colours you want, play whatever type of army you want and still be a competitive player
I don't think the LM are bad, I just don't think they are a great army for a beginner. The models look great (except for the cold ones) and are some of the funnest and easiest to paint and make them look good.
There are some really good units in the army (saurus w/spears, saurus characters, terradons aren't horrible and the engines are awesome) I just don't feel like there is enough variety and differences between the different units to justify a whole army here.
skinks are the only real shooting. We have lots of dinosaurs if you want that, but they all kind of do the same thing and the Engine is heads and shoulders above the rest. Slann and 2 engines makes for a killer magic phase, but it doesn't leave much left on the table for actually playing the game. The whole army is made of 2 different statlines pretty much and I think that's what makes the army boring. Everybody does pretty much the same thing. The magic items list is short of useful items. There is very little variation. Magic can even be boring in that all skinks have to take heavens, you don't even get a decent grasp of the different lores and how they can interact with each other. I know if I was starting out new to the game, there are several other armies I think would be easier to get a grasp of and enjoy all aspects of the game rather than just 1-2. That's all I'm saying.
