Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've started on building a Lizardmen army but I'm stuck as to which colors to paint them. I'm not doing blue, green, or red. But I can't think of a suitable alternative.
How do you paint yours? Do you paint the Skinks and Saurus the same?
What is wrong with blue, green or red? They are the most obvious three choices. Remember you can pick many many shades of the colours and different finishes to make a completely different feel from brown/red and dry to bright blue and wet looking.
Skinks and saurus are usually painted with the same scheme in mind, they skinks may be a few shades lighter or darker to distinguish the saurus warriors. I am going with the normal blue for the skin with bright orange (highlighted to yellow from scab red) on the scales for mine.
I painted mine the "official?" colors used by Games Workshop. I'm not creative enough to think up my own scheme but its not like theres any other Lizardmen players where I am so at least there isn't anyone else's army that looks like mine.
But what strewart said is usually done, the saurus being a darker shade of the armies decided skin color and the skinks a lighter shade. Like for the Games Workshop coloring, the saurus' skin is hawk turquoise while the skinks' is ice blue.
I tried to find a way of painting mine quickly as I can get bored fast so I just spray them black paint the skin white and do ice blue stripes down the back. Of course the skin is shaded with grey. It looks rally good and takes 10 mins to do 5
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
I paint my lizardmen based off of real lizards the Saurus skintone matches the bluegreen of some iguanas and my skinks are painted based off of green anoles, bright green for the body, a tan underbelly and the crest is bright red with white spots.
If you're looking for something besides blue, red and green then I would suggest looking at real world lizards as well. There are a lot of species of lizards that are brown and grey and have interesting spot/stripe patterns. I hope this helps and best of luck painting.
I like the oregon ducks (even though I didnt go to school there because it is out of state, go wsu) BUT mine are green and yellow they look pretty sharp for me not being great at painting. The only problem is the shields and fan things on the skinks are dark blue so they dont contrast too much and I dont know if I like them much might change it.
but here are twoexamples of peoples from my gaming clubs lizardmen (which means unfortunately people in my club are also now doing lizardmen, but I dont think any of them live around here anymore or use that army)

Thanks for the ideas guys. Think I'm going to take the green or even white route.

I'm a big fan of orange.
For the skinks I use a blazing orange, hit them with a chestnut wash or devlan mud wash. Their scales are brown. I think they look pretty cool.
i did similar to the above post,
i went liche purple and and blazing orange for the scales
my salamanders are purp/bright pink scales and yellow/deep red scales
i wanted something original and bright
My brother uses a brown scheme, which is a basecoat of calthan brown, then several drybushes of calthan brown mixed with bleached bone, adding more bleached bone each time. finally, a drybush of pure bleached bone is used, but only on the scales.
