I'm thinking of finally adding some much needed flying support to my Lizardmen army. But the question is, what do you guys think is a good number of Terradons to take in battles around 2000 points? Thanks for your time.
Three or four is a good number. Should be enough rocks to take out fast cavalry and the like. And you don't need to worry about not being able to rally that last lone one left.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
usually a pretty good sign.
I would go with more if I thought that the enemy might have flying units of their own needed to engage you; and would go with less if I knew the enemy was not going to have flyers or flying models that were not units.
I like 3 and possibly a skink chief with sun staff. They fly over the enemies most threatening unit and drop rocks. shot at their war machines unit dead and if needed take the flank from an enemy that in winning a battle. They can also draw fanatics. They are great.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
I think terradons are one of the last units to get squeezed into most liazrdmen lists because we can never get in everything we want in a list. I think this i why you see terradons in units of three. Three however happens to be a pretty good number as this can achieve most of the task they might do, like march blocking, eating fleeing troops, droppin rocks on fast cavalry/warmachines an just generally being annoying. But i think 4 is probably the optimum.
I like 2 units of 12. They drop rocks that can destroy entire units, they can hit the rear of any remaining units, they have some staying power and with the Fear or Frenzy BsB in their ranks can make life miserable for the enemy.
In my opinion the number of terradons all depends on the role you wish them to play.
Buckero0 uses them to basically assassinate one strategic unit so naturally you're going to want more.
Most people tend to use them for march blocking or killing fast calv / warmachines. So fewer are required. 3-4 seems to be right, anymore is just overkill for this task. And it is true this unit tends to get left out until last, but i tend to throw em into my army sooner rather than later. I cant tell you how valuable a good march block can be late in the game to really turn the tide of things to your favour.
Now i've even seen some people like using 2 units of terradons.
Never underestimate the ability to fly. it makes it very easy to capture objectives / table edges to squeeze out wins in tight games.
Enjoy the Terradons they are a blast!!!
as was said, vs GreenSkins, you need at least one terradon. Even with no character on board, the abillity to fly it parallel and try to draw out as many fanatics as possible makes them worth their weight.
