As the title suggests, my friends who just got into WHFB (from 40k) are playing low point cost battles, about 1k right now. It will probably be this way for a while.
I'll be grabbing a battle force and one other thing. Is a Stegadon my best choice or is it too much for this point cost? Will I get in trouble for running an EoTG against VC, Orks and Dwarves during what are, technically, friendly games?
If not EoTG, is a vanilla Steg also to much? I like the model, but my grasp of what is fair and what isn't in WHFB is pretty weak so far. Many thanks!
Well it depends on whom you are going up against.....
Vs. the Dwarves, you almost have to expect the Organ Gun, Grudgethrower, or Cannon or a unit of Slayers....any of them can spell the doom of your Steggie+EOG on round 1. If you can get initiative and have either really good screening troops or Terradons that can get to these crews, but vs the Dwarves.....if your opponent has a good reputation of being accurate with his range guessing....you could be in a lot of trouble.
Vs GreenSkins.....I think your Steggie would do just fine.
Vs VC....I think it will do REALLY well, especially if the Lore of Light is used against them.
Buy the steggie, it should do well in at least 2 battles and isn't usually considered cheesy. Also If you want to increase your army size at a later stage then it is a must!
I would use it as an EOTG with a priest on top for a very good magic army under 1k, against dwarves it will probably be torn apart so I would either not take it or at the very least take the priest off the top of it.
(magic is rubbish against dwarves anyway due to their dispel dice bonuses!)
Good luck gaming!
Steg with EotG is always great, although not always friendly. I would run it regardless on the fact that it gives you Terror, a Mage, effects of the EotG, and a Steg, which isn't shabby in itself.
Armies: (Chaos) Space Marines [1250pts], O&G [2250 pts], OK [1000pts]
Da face of Mork looks down on the Gobbers of da Bwoo Moon, da bestest Gobbos eva.
Thanks for all the advice, guys. I've drawn up a first attempt at a list in the list section, based on the contents of the Battalion and a Stegg box. From looking over the Steggadon stats, it seems that if I want to run an ancient Stegg as well as some magic under 2k, I may as well go EoTG. Please have a look and tell me what you think =)
