this has probably been asked before, but I can seem to find it.
What to do against an MH enemy without any stegadons (I dont own any yet)?
I faced an 750pts empire army the other day, he fielded a lot of shooting and magic. His 'death moon' (the MH variant) was a unit of 10 archers (skirmishers; BS 4; range: 24") with 2 warriors (Rod of Power; Luck stone + Ring of Volance; Power Stone). I had only a single priest with me as I went for combat/ movement. The priest had the "store up to two PD to use as DD" item. But there was no way I could dispell everything he threw at me... any tips?

at that point level, while people will say the EOTG+priest would be a anti-magic force, that also means you have to bump him up to level 2 and let the EOTG's power give him the lv 3 equivelant as far as dispel dice and such goes. Yes, the Diadem allows you to save magic dice from the power to the dispel pool.
One thing that works really well in higher point games is giving your Slann the discipline that grants him a MR (3) against all spell casts. The unit he is in also benefits so you get 3 dice against EVERY spell EVERY time, not a bad deal. Add to it other items that a Slann can have and you can see why they are so feared. I know I plan on doing that.
So you basicly say: Get a steggie?
Well, without a Slaan available it aint easy. A character setup like Skink on Engine, Skink with 2 Scrolls and Scar Vet with Jag Charm or Horned One should help. Get some Terradons too. The aim is to stop what you can/need to, and then charge that punt unit of Archers and just kill them Or use the Lore of Heaven's range to smash them from afar.
Honestly, I'm not 100% on this one, but 1 Skink Priest won't cut it against magic heavy, even at this points level....
You dont have to get a steggie, but you will need more than one priest if you are going up against a magic heavy list. At low points for good magic defense I suggest a level 2 priest with the diadem of power, and a level 1 scroll caddie. This will net you 6 dispel dice and 2 dispel scrolls which should be adequate against most anything at below 2k points.
Something to remember also though, you cant really stop every single little spell your opponent attempts. The key to good magic defense is to judge what you can afford to let through and what you really need to stop.
I somehow missed the fact that this was a 700 pt game. As such, I dont recommend going with two priests. too many points invested in squishy characters at such a level

Hey thanks for the help!
Ive been playing WE for some time now, so I have learned to dispel magic I was just hoping the LM had some epic combo that ensured succes... but reading your reactions Im afraid I was mistaken...
SO more priest, scroll caddy and some terradons... check.
The "epic" combo I think for LM is the diadem/scroll. 1 priest can use 5 DD and 1 scroll. That's a lot at such a low point value. That's not bad at a 2250 game, not good, but not bad neither.

at 700 points that is really your only option. I mean you could put in more priests to serve in an anti-magic role, but you are cutting into points for other things. the lv2 Priest/EOTG/Diadem of Power/Scroll combo is probably option 1, maybe squeeze a second priest with scroll caddy abillities but your not going to have much for the rest of your army.
Engine priest with diadem and scroll is the best magic defense you can get from a single wizard, but at 700 pts I would suggest against the engine part of that combo, otherwise all you have the points for is the engine and a couple units of skink skirmishers.
Until you can get to lord level games (becalming cogitation ftw!) the priest described above (level 2, diadem, and scroll) is your best bet. Unfotunately lizardmen have, individually, some of the best casters in the game, but we are no longer the truly magical powerhouses that we used to be. We have been usurped by the DoC, DE, VC, and Teclis lists out there.
