I've been contemplating buying Saurus heroes for a while and the one thing that's stopping me is how hideous the metal Saurus hero model is. I've been thinking about using the three skink chiefs I have, mounting them on bigger bases and using them as "Counts as" Saurus heroes. I've also been looking around for decent conversions, but I haven't really come across any. Has anyone seen anything in their broad searches of the internet?
I'm just wondering what you find objectionable about the saurus hero models? I've always seen them as pretty nice models... especially compared to some of the other models in the lizardmen range. Really, we have some true uggos, with chameleon skinks wearing hoods that would totally interfere with their natural camouflage while normal skinks run around in the buff, kroxigors have never looked right, I've never seen a realistic looking terradon, and the slann's skink slave looks like a sniveling weenie yes-man.
The models just look... Eh. Like a quick sculpt that was thrown together
Yeah I got the same problem Dreadlock... Im not going to buy that model, ever.
What I did was convert a Tempel Guard champ into a scar vet... it has everything the scar vet has, and it has kick ass horns and stuff. My TG unit champ is a bit toned down so that there is a difference between the two.
For the Scar-vet on Cold One, I currently use a pimped up version of a cold one riders unit champ. I do however like the GW model for that one, so I may invest in that one in the near future.
I personally really like the Chameleons in the current version. They look like they used all kind of bits from their surroundings and glues them to their body... making them even harder to spot!
I also like the terradon (it looks cool) And the kroxiqor. So I think that is just a personal taste...
Cool idea with the temple guard/saurus hero conversion. It's hard to use other models for saurus b/c there are so few scaled creatures of appropriate size and the previous version of saurus are very different than the current ones (new ones way nicer IMO).
One other option to consider could be using a krox from the 7th edition. These are smaller than the current ones and look rather saurus-like. You could strap a shield to its side to complement the great weapon and give you some wysiwyg options. I think at least one pose has legs close enough together to fit on a 25 mm. Can anyone confirm this?
TheGuiding: I agree that model preferences are highly individual. I also think that chameleon skinks are cool models. They are just illogical and therefore I do not like them. Chameleon skinks can change their colors, so in order to hide better they strap dead frogs to themselves? I'd buy it if they were tying branches or leaves to themselves, but unless they are hiding in a pile of dead frogs, it doesn't work... and eew.
Note: I would love to see someone use a pile of dead frogs with a protruding blowpipe as a chameleon skink.
Im going to make that pile! Its way to funny to let it pass! xD when I ever finish it I will post some pics lol
