Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just wanted to know from anyone else, how to counter a full Night Goblin army, what would be your tactics/ideas & what units would be good to bring against them? thanx
Oh & i almost forgot the first against them might be 1000pts if that helps at all.
Salamanders! The best they can hope for is LD 7 unless they put a non-night goblin hero in the mix. You'll kill a ton and force LD tests.
Skinks to draw out fanatics and shoot them down. Shoot the pants off any squigs, you don't want them to reach your side of the table.
I think this might also be a rare instance where a unit of 3-4 swarms in 2 ranks would actually be a worthwhile unit to force their troops into a position for a flank charge from a unit of saurus. The rank limits the number of models that can attack (should be 12-24 attacks if horde/spears) They will hold their own for a turn and actually cause some damage if you get them vs night goblins. Plus poison attacks negates the nets effect.
night goblins only got LD 6 and not 7 but a good tactic and what do you mean poison attacks negates the nets effect?
The NG war boss has LD7.
NG nets give -1 strength to CC opponents on a D6 roll of 2-6, and -1 strength to themselves on a 1.
Whether tangled in nets or not, jungle swarms have worthless strength on their attacks, but because they are poison, they have a chance to auto-wound when rolling to hit, which means their strength is irrelevant and therefore nets are really only a liability for the NG. The NG will only get their puny armor or parry save if equipped with shields and hand weapons.
ohh did not remember the NG boss bizkit if you want to help you friend in battles from now on then tell him he can buy a singel orc general its gonna help all hes LD test and good luck
I'll agree with ZooKeeper. Salamaders will melt some serious Goblin face, and Skinks will do pretty darn well too. Your Saurus are gonna destroy them in CC, even if they are in hordes. Sure they're going to attack you first, but he's going to be wounding you on 5s. You really can't go wrong here. Skink skirmishers and Salamanders are your friends.
Better yet, they'll be wounding on 6's, they're S2. If you're bringing Saurus Heroes, you'll be making chump sauce of them in secods. An oldblood with the Sword of Bloodshed+Maiming shield = 9 Attacks at S5. All less than 250 points =D Sure it's expensive, but you're killing stuff. Quickly. Throw in a Scar vet with Scimitar in the same unit. That's +6 attacks. 15 S5 attacks on a unit of goblins, it's going to crumble, and quick. What i've done in a small game like that (Though, to be a complete jerk) I took that Oldblood, and 2 bare Scar Vets in a 1000 point game, slapped them in a Saurus unit and watched them melt face. 17 attacks at S5 will disassemble any T3, light armored unit. Do it xD
I fight NG all the time and I think that there are two things you should consider taking with you:
1. Skink Skirmishers, just to make sure no spider riders/ wolf rider fast cav comes running down your flanks.
2. Salamanders (units of 2 or 3 preferably), these will simply burn holes in big units of NG! And when a NG unit flees... it will lose its fanatics! (woohee!)
3. Saurus Warriors, simply to take the punch when the hordes are on the other side of the table! Think about putting a scar vet with the sigil sword (I 10) in a unit and challenging his BSB with him!
Without the battle standard bearer their Ld will plummet.
So, it boils down to this: Make them take Ld tests!
we are running an escalation league right now at the local game store and i've fought night goblins twice so far with my lizards and at the points we played i could only take some saurus and a scar vet but that was really all i needed. they just didn't have anything that could stand up to my saurus warrior blocks of 15-20 saurus they would take too many causalities and be forced down to rolling snake eyes to stay in the fight and would be chased down and slaughtered every time. like they said ld tests are were its at with goblins.
