How does gor rok shield of aeons ability work in 8th ed?
how does it effect chargers with lances?
if an ethereal unit or skeletal steed charges him do they take a dangerous terrain test?
how does this work if hes in a unit?

Errata says "The Shield of Aeons. Change to “Shield. In close combat, Gor-Rok always counts as defending an obstacle (wall). This means that cavalry, monstrous cavalry and chariot models that charge Gor-Rok must take a Dangerous Terrain test. Also, any chargers will also suffer a -1 to hit him in the turn they charge.”
If he is in the unit they they must also be charging him even if they do not direct hits against him, so i would put my money on them taking terrain tests but only suffer -1 to hit the turn they charge if they direct hits on him.
ok but say a unit of black knights charge do they still get to use lances against him?
also they have skeletal steed(ethereal movement) so the person i play will say they dont take dangerous terrain test for obstacles.
hmmm, interesting problem you have there.
First i would say no, they do not get lances +2 strength for charging. it is a bonus lances get on the charge so they would not get it at all charging gor rok or the unit he is in.
Now as for the ethereal movement, i would agree with your opponent in that the ethereal movement mean they ignor terrain and obstacles when moving.
but his shield is a magic shield so could argue that as its the shield thats the obstacle that ethereal do take damage.
one thing in the errata it says to change what is written in the book to what is in the errrata and the errata bit does not say that they lose bonus for charging just he is defending an obstacle and is -1 to hit.
Yes it appears you are rite. Im sure in the old rules charges would loose lances, maybe its just the bretonian bowmen palisades. Matt Ward should just learn to leave well enough alone, i mean, how often are you going to use a Ghost Fence. And if you didnt already cause fear would you even think about deffending afence which is ...a ghost. anyway rant over.
To be honest, just make your own Scar Vet. Its alot cheaper nd your going to get more bang for your buck than the Lizardmen premade characters. Especialy with gor rok only going to be of any real use if you issue a challenge and manage not to get killing blowed byt a white king or unit champion in that black knight unit.
the rules for charging a unit defending a obstacle like a wall states that the unit charging loses all benifits from the charge which would include the +2 strength from the lances but i agree with saltrock36 and say to just make your own scar-vet or even an old-blood and for the price of gor rok you'll get alot more for your points.
By the rules, he is defending a "wall" so you follow the rule for wall on page 123. That is where the -1 to hit comes from.
Now being magical doesn't give it anything special rules wise, but I think it would be reasonable to agree that ethereal creatures would still have to take a dangerous terrain check. But that would be something you would have to agree upon with your opponent. Rules wise, there is nothing to support that.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
ok will just use the rule from the FAQ then. So he no longer loses his charging bonus
