Ok, so don't get me wrong I LOVE me some Slann action. However, lately I've been having a little trouble. When my Slann is with his TG, am I supposed to keep him back behind my army so he doesn't get targeted with shooting and CC? Or move him forward with the rest of my army. I played a game tonight and his unit of 20 temple guard got torn to shreds by a side flank of a DE hydra and Black Guard. Granted it didn't help when I rolled a 6 for a miscast and lost 11 TG....but still. I'm just starting to think he needs to stay way back, with the TG just there for protection. I humbly request your advice on how you guys operate your Slanns.
well, running away is not an option.
I always keep my slann right up there, as a solid part of my battle line.
A big pack of saurus at one flank, and skink skirmishers and 3 razordons on the other flank.
If I fight it head to head, and keep my 2big blocks from getting flanked, im good
So the basic set-up is like this
20 temple guards with the slann,
23saurus with an oldblood, oldblood has crown of command.
This leaves me 2 stubborn, very solid blocks, making up the heart of the line.
then flank guarding is just a matter of preference
Yeah that would work, but I can't get a slann and oldblood in the same army, only 2k battle. I was thinking maybe next game trying an oldblood maybe on carnosaur, then 2 level 2 priests. I dunno I'll have to see. I really like using a slann especially in 8th, its just everytime his unit gets pwnt somehow.
As a general rule, I move them forward with the warriors beside them. They are a combat unit, rather expensive to just hang back and babysit a slann. And don't forget to take the cupped hands of the old ones on him.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Move them forward! they are the best CC troops we have when there is a slann inside! (stubborn, itp, ld 9...)
They can take a beating, but a hydra and a unit black guard in your flank just mean you didn't position them right. Keep your flanks closed with a salamander, or swift reform to change you facing.
Also think about either the cupped hands or lore of life both are good against miscasts!
Yeah I had Lore of Life and that was working well for me, however I forgot to take Cupped Hands! I don't know how either, haha. I had my flanks pretty well guarded, I just got a little ahead of myself . Oh well, better luck next time. At least I see that other people use their Slann and TG the same way I was thinking.
Hehe, yeah... I know that can happen.
I must say I dont take the cupped hands when I have the lore of life, I rather put my points in other items. I do however take the cupped hands and maybe the soul of stone atribute when I run him as either lore of light or lore of shadows... Those are pretty effective as well!
