Welcome to Librarium Online!
Long story short: I'm looking at playing Lizardmen, but I don't want to field a Slann. How much of a hit will my army take from this? Does taking a few Skink priests with EotG help to make up for it?
I like playing games without a slann. I don't worry about my offensive magic capabilities when I do, I just have a priest or two depending on points that concentrate on defense.
Leaves you a lot of points for combat and shooting units. So don't worry if you don't want to field a slann. The army can still be competitive.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
As SirKently pointed out,
LM can be played as an CC army! Most of the LM units are meant to be in Close Combat, think Warriors, tempel guard, skink cohort, kroxigor, tempel guard, cold one riders, stegadon. (I think I got most of them )
I also enjoy playing an close combat orientated list. Do put in a Oldblood on Carnosaurus to test that out, its terrific to see it cut its way through entire units ! Also, make sure you take enough skink skirmishers with you to ensure that you can hassle the war machines and fast movers before they stop your offensive line dead in their tracks.
