Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm starting my Lizardmen army finally (just bought my army book) and was curious how effective some of the units are. I'm starting w/ 1000 points and eventually upgrading to 2500 (really wanna use the slann) but I've heard skink priests and terradons aren't very useful in 1000 point games? Really don't want a strictly melee army as my girlfriend is playing chaos, suggestions?
can't say I love the models for the cold one riders either...
First question is if you intend to be competitv och friendly
in my opinion that really sets the lists apart as a competitv list looks different from one that is made from you personal taste. If you go friendly (like me) look through the book, check out the picture and get a feel for what looks cool. After that, you can sort of gauge what their strengths are.
Lizardmen can have good shooting and if your girlfriend tends to be a regular opponent, i would say Salamanders are a stable choice. Get them in a good position and lay the hurt on him. Marauders melt away (litterally) under their shooting.
Skinks work well as harassing and even killing off stubborn things (giants, ogres, warhounds). Never underestimate the power of poisen!
Hope this helps a bit
Mostly friendly but I do wanna win!
I've researched the models and am probably goin 2 reg's saurus, 1 skink squad, terradons, and whatever i can fit for a skink priest and salamanders. Probably upgrade later to slann and stegadon.
I guess my question is, is a skink priest a viable option over a scar-vet? Seems like everyone's list on here has a scar vet or an oldblood, I def wanna use some magic.
Skink priest is a viable option at 1k. But usually, at that low a point level, you can go without magic. If you want some magic, the priest is cheap enough, you could probably field a priest and a scar-vet. The reason you see so many scar-vets is that a BSB is really important in this edition. I would not take a priest over a vet, but both is OK.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
The one thing not to take the priest is that if you get an irresistible force (double 6's) and a miscast, then you will probably end up losing a lot of models on your side!
If you want to be competitive, then take a unit of 2 salamanders, a unit of 10 skink skirmishers and a whole lot of saurus warriors with scar-vets in the units of warriors.
Make one of the scar-vets the BSB and off you go!
This is a viable way to go, especially against chaos and other close combat orientated armies.
I, however, do find that setup a bit boring after a few battles. And I like to add "fun" units like stegadons or kroxigor.
Simply because I like the models and their fluff...
Welcome to the jungle, and may the old ones be with you!
TheGuiding pretty much nailed it, was looking for that balance between a fun, cool army versus a serious, "boring" army. I'll go with the advice and take a BSB as well but like I said, I'll be upgrading to a slann eventually so I'll still grab a priest.
Thanx much, will def post an army list within a week or two
