taking a break from 40k so i decided to start lizardmen. i already got a codex with a battalion. what units are good in the army and which one is better lizards with spears or lizards with hw and shield.
oh and if you ask if i played fantasy before the answer is yes.
Well the battalion gives you three units that usually are a stable choice for your army.
Saurus - Not only do you need them, they kick but as well! One of the best core units in the game they work well in units of 20-30 depending on the points. The spear vs Hw and Shield discussion is long and arduos. In my opinion try them both out and see what you like most. For me personally, gaining five attacks and loosing a 6++ save...ya its WORTH IT!
Skinks - Easy to kill but fun to use. I usually run two ten man teams with blowpipes. Take them and be a nusense. Either your opponent ignores them and you can try picking off monsters and other things with poisen, or they get hit by something. Which isn't a bad thing sinse then your Saurus are spared some punishment. I would say you should always go for blowpipes, but its a matter of opinion and try Javelins and Blowpipes to see what you like best.
Temple Gaurd - If you run a slann, you take these guys. If you dont run a slan...you still take them
Good save, WS 4 and I2 (truly monsters) and can dish out a fair amount of pain. They are your elite and therfore should be pointed in the direction of your opponents better units since they go toe to toe with alot. They cost a fair bit of points but usually make up for it when you have slann sitting in their midst. Make the perfekt center for your army.
Cold One Cavelry - Their glory days have passed and vost too much for what they do. Wouldn't invest in them but since you have them already you might as well try them. They have good stats but it doesn't make up for other shortcoming that appeared in 8'th edition.
This is a good start for your army and now you need to fluff it out. The choices are hard to make since we have a lot of fun units for us to pick from. Stegadons, Salamanders, Razordons, Stegadons, Chameleon skinks are all good choices. Try writing an army list with what you have and then maybe proxy the units to see how well they perform. Its a good way to test the army without spending money on something you later realise wasn't for you.
Its a very shallow look into the army and my opinions are by no means the best but hopefully give you an idea of what Lizardmen have to offes. Tactics can be found here in the site as well as setups for your Heroes and Lords. Hope i helped in my own little way
Welcome to the jungle!
about the skinks you can use them an other way. you can use them as a horde in big battles 40 skinks and 3-5 kroxigors minimum 2 rank bonus until there are only 4 skinks remain but a skink chef in there and i could say that its not skinks it its skinks of doom try let the enemy charge so you can get 10 shoots in stand and shoot
i it are small battles have 24+ skinks and 3+ kroxigors they still evil but not as much as the big ones. REMEMBER the enemy cant attack you kroxigors becose they are on second rank
Actually the enemy can attack your Kroxigors, it states in the "Great Reach" rule that the Kroxigors can attack and be attacked by the enemy if a skink is in base to base with that enemy. Unless this has been changed in an Errata.
That means Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest-son-of-a-bitch in space!
