I think about this every now and then and these ideas are what usually cross my mind:
Monstrous cavalry: Skinks riding a 'Pachycephalosaurus' style dinosaur
I could imagine that they would have a base strength of 4/5, but on a turn that they charge the monstrous cavalry (Not rider) would get something like +1 strength for every 3 inches not including their basic movement and impact hits (1) at the modified strength value of their charge.
Monsters and handlers: Skinks driving a 'Spinosaurus' into combat much like a DE Hydra
The monster would be a beast in combat and have the marsh/river/swamp strider special rule, Large target, Multiple wounds (D3) but it's downside would be something like it has the 'Uncontrollable' special rule (What the DE/WoC Manticore has) in addition roll a d6 at the beginning of every turn; on a roll of 1 roll another d6: 1-3 remove all skinks, monster takes a wound as the skinks frantically try to defend themselves from the rampaging monster, 4-6 remove d3 skinks instead.
I'd also love to see skink lords, chameleon heroes, Coatls (flying, feathered serpent on pg 5 of the lizardmen army book).
Ive also noticed references to 'Thunder lizards' and 'Lustrian Jungle dragons'; Thunder lizards in the Lizards army book and if i'm not mistaken also in the main rule book, and Jungle dragons in the fluff entry for maneaters in the OK army book though i'd imagine that the 'dragon' part of the name would be a misnomer and it's probably just referring to a carnosaur or terradon or something.
What would you guys like to see?
I think a Skink Lord would be cool and a larger flying monster like the Coatls
We have some really cool units already, but many are untakeable because the points are unbalanced. Currently I only find non-character heros, saurus, terradons, chameleons, skink skirmishers and salamanders useful right now. Either everything I use is undercosted or everything else is over costed (or I can't play with them properly).
Kroxigors stink... for 1 krox you get 3 S6 attacks and a S4 hit with 3W or for the same price you can get 5 saurus with 10 S4 attacks 5 W. Both will strike last, have the same toughness and armor save. Plus the choice between fear and ld 7 vs ld8...there is no contest! Skrox units aren't practical either because you lose stomp and bleed CR. Trolls are S5 and 20 pts cheaper (stupidity isn't so bad).
Cold one riders 5-8 points cheaper would make them much more usable. Also, sauruses with great weapons would be awesome! We strike last anyway.
Swarms need to be cheaper across the board.
Our special characters are all the Warhammer equivalent of Aquaman.
Don't get me wrong, I love our units, but I'm feeling rather limited right now... and ranty.
I'd just like to be able to use the shield with my temple guard...
Well, I still think that the LM army is pretty up to speed. We have monsters, killer characters and strong core units.
The only things I would like to see change in are these:
Also some of our special rules arent so special any more, but we are still paying in points for them. (Think aquatic) These should be redone in the errata.
- Named Characters: They are really expensive for what they do now.
- Choosing of weapons: TG are equipped with an item set which cant be used.
- Skink Lord: It is pretty lame that there is no skink lord (unnamed) character.
