Welcome to Librarium Online!
So, I was wondering what kind of Stegadon to use? Not for any specific scenario, Just overall. whats the advantages and dissadvantages of the diferent types? When should you use what type?
Skink priest on Ancient gives EotG which is awesome as long as it doesn't take a single cannon ball to the face
Chief can ride either the younger has slightly higher I value but not enough to matter the real difference comes down to the weapons IMHO the giant bow (bolt thrower with poisoned attacks) or giant blow pipes if you can fire the blow pipes you should really be trying to charge.
Special / rare if you like the idea of big beasties then take as points allow.
Thanks for the reply. Might aswell ask this here aswell rather then wasting space on making new topics for the questions, How is the best way to equip skinks?
that I cant say haven't really used skinks on their own yet sorry
never used them or even play lizard men but if it helps give them blowpipes, the poision thing is nasty and works well
Stegadons are awesome, if used properly. If you face many warmachines, run at least two. Make sure that your Chameleons and/or Terradons take out their cannons and whatnot before they can bring your monsters down. If you don't face warmachines, you should have a field day with them. I will admit, I have trouble with them. Question, is it better to be aggressive with them or have them charge in only after your saurus blocks are in combat?
The idea of chargin a combat with your saurus already ingaged is good, but you stegadon WILL get killed before unless your skinks takes down all the warmachines in 1 or 2 turns. So Whenever I use a stegadon I want to run straigt forward and charge to avoid getting shot down. Also make sure you get to charge, D6 +1 impacts hit is needed when your stegadon is up for combat without flanking units by it's side.
In a bigger list, an EoTG is a great way to help a life slann to keep your army alive.

i like the stegadon + skink chief w/ war spear, these 2D6 impact hits are awesome + its a spear giving him the chief S5 on the charge!
my slann always has lore of life, i keep this steagon close by so whenever my slann casts a spell i can heal my steagon and or buff him up through lore of life. winning!
IMO you should either take no Stegs at all or 3+. A 1-2 stegs are much easier for opponents to contained or shoot.
Stegs are good with a Life Slann, they are a great place to dump the Lifebloom on (while if you like Light it would be better to take no Saurus instead of Stegs).
Ancient is better, even though it is 17% more expensive IMO. It has a better armour save, better gun (which hilariously can stand and shoot) and most importantly higher stength (S6 makes Impact and Thunderstomp scary to anything). However, the Ancient is competing the rare slot with Salamanders, so normally you will only be able to afford 1 Ancient and a War-spear Ancient as a Hero before having to settle for Regadons in Special.
Unfortunately the buggers are quite slow and aren't effective if you don't get the charge. Good use of Terradons, Skirmishers and Chameleons is required to ensure charges. Fortunately Stegs are quite maneuverable (free pivots) so you can outsmart an infantry block when in close proximity. With blowpipes. Cheaper and better at shooting (20 poison shots on 6+ and 10 poison shots on a 4+ are equal against T3, but the 20 shots are much better against anything tougher etc). How is the best way to equip skinks?
