    Apparent interest in Lizardmen

Why does the Lizardmen army sound so appealing all of a sudden. I've thought
about it and I actually want to see if anybody else enjoyes playing lizardmen.

    Discussion topics:

How capable are they against other races?

How easy are they to handle?

How long and how much resource did you put into your Lizardmen army?

What would you recomend to an interested player of Lizardmen?

(I bascially plan on buying the battalion set to start off with, then
when cash becomes availiable I'll put more money into it)

Any advice on collecting an all round army?

    Thanks In Advance guys!

Probably because of all of the hype behind the Lustria campaign and the fact that it's GW's current fantasy push until Wood Elves arrive in August. While I don't collect or play lizzies, two of my friends play and quite a few of my opponents play them as well. They can be a very enjoyable (fluffwise) and competitive army to play indeed.

In a word: very. They have the most variety in terms of units available to them. You want hard hitting infantry, go saurus warriors. You want stealth, skink and chameleon skinks. You want cavalry, saurus on cold ones. Monstrous stuff, steggies and salamanders. Not to mention their heroes, saurus oldbloods are amongst the scariest close combatants in the Old World, and everyone rightly fears the wrath of the masters of magic, the Slann.

Very. They almost always do what you want, especially with their cold blooded rule which is fantastic for leadership checks.

Err, this I can't really help with, sorry.

Start off with a nice mix of units and then expand on what you like in that list.

The battalion box is a great start (as you've already said). From there you will probably need to get another box of skinks and saurus warriors, a few kroxi's and perhaps even a steggie to add into the mix.

Hope that this helps you out some, good luck on collecting / painting them if you decide on starting them.

    Yep, what he said!
I've been a follower of chaos for a very long time and just recently I decided I wanted to collect a new army. My mate uses Lizardmen and my battles with him are always tough. So I had a flick through his army book and went away to think about it. It didn't take long for me to realise that the Lizardmen would be the army I would collect next! I like the look of the models (although the current Kroxigor could be a bit beefier!), the rules and stats they have, their magic items, their Blessed spawnings, etc. Everything about them is cool!
And the weird thing is, they are the complete opposite of chaos! I guess I've been in the northern wastes too long...

    Not much to add.
Except that IMO the Lizzies are one of the easiest armies to begin with as a newb. Very good leadership, you don't have to be frightenend they'll be running fast.
Exceptionally stout core troops, the Saurus. Very dependable.
And with the coming of the plastic CO Riders, you can build a complete army, with diversity in composition and tactics, completely of plastic models (except for the characters of course, though you could use a normal Saurus model for a scar-vet. I doesn't look good, but it is an option), which does save a lot of money.

And for a beginning army, yes the battalion box is fine. And then you need some characters, I'd buy a Saurus hero and a Skink Priest.
The first thing i'd do to expand is to buy a Saurus box. 24 Saurus means only 1 unit (16 or 20 strong). So 16 extra would give alot more stability to the army.

I actually would recommend against the battalion box, especially as an army you want to sit on for a little while. It only comes with the army book, one box each of saurus and skinks, and a slann. You won't be able to use the slann untill you get a lot more models, and even then there are a lot of players that don't even use them. It would be cheaper just to get the book and the two boxes individually, then you can get a saurus character, a skink priest, and later add on to that.

I painted mine blue with red/orange/yellow scales.
I guess green would be a nice skin colour.

the orange and yellow color scheme is great if properly done, and very different than all the players with the blue vanilla lizards

I've seen some done in "muted colours" that were quite different from all the bright blues and other bright colours normally used for them. If you want a more realistic and stealthy looking army, go with various greys and maybe even some pale greens --- looks very sharp on lizzies, especially when contrasting with bleached bone teeth and claws.

    .

Mine are dark green with blue scales, based on the GW 5th edition lizardmen colours except darker.
