Let's say, you've got the following 1000 points army, not facing a specific enemy:
great weapon, light armour, shield
Charm of the Jaguar Warrior, Spawning of Quetzl
Skink Priest 90
20 Saurus Warriors 270
12 Skinks 72
10 Skinks 70
3 Terradons 105
Now, which of the following would you include next? Which? Why? And what would you spend the savings on?
- 6 Saurus Cavalry 230
41 points to spare.
- 3 Kroxigor 174
10 Skinks 60
37 points to spare.
- Stegadon 235
36 points to spare.
Please give the motivations of your choices.
I'd take the Saurus Cavalry. Why? It's Saurus warriors, only as cavalry. Faster and just as strong, plus they have that standard bearer. All in all, a great choice.
I'd take the steggie. Why? Greater mobility, negates rank bonus upon a flank charge, terror causing and can shield you skink priest effectively. Not to mention the impact hits, portable artillery piece, stibbornness and great toughness.
Saurus cav (can't remember if they're stupid or not - they always end up being stupid on the turn you need them most I've found!) are a close second, but a steggie's a lot more versatile IMO.
The only drawback with the steggie is it's size, making it easier to hit with large artillery pieces, but even saurus cav are doomed when hit by an artillerry piece I guess.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.
- Blind Guardian
I would take stegadon OR saurus cav. Why? Their both hard hitters, but saurus tend to get killed easier by missile fire so i would say stegadon is winning. Besides, they cause sooo much damage
go the kroxigors, those things get you and the enemies go down quickly
Go the Lizardmen Host of Quetzl, complete with loads of Skinks and Saurus....Death to Chaos
Space Marine Chapter Master.........of the..........
I still need a name for him.....and his Chapter.....but he has a combi weapon and a Power Chain
Myself I would probably prefer the Saurus Cavalry. Because they can pursue 3D6".
But the other choices also have their advantages.
The Stegadon causes terror, has a ranged weapon and also psychologically influence the opponent (more than the other two).
And the Kroxies just hit so hard, and have a Skink screen.
Well, I would probably go with the kroxigor, but the COR's are also very nice. Basically, the way I see it is that kroxigors give you a good reliable flanker that is fairly survivable and has good maneuverablility. The COR's are a bit of a gamble. Stupidity means that there is a chance that your expensive squad will walk around for a turn when you need them, though cold blooded helps with that. They are mounted, meaning that they are easier to shoot at, and they are relatively fragile for their points compared to the rest of the LM list. However, when they hit, they hit hard, and the 3D6" thing really helps, plus the fact that they can take a magic banner. Personally, I would take the kroxigor, if for nothing else but that they are cheaper, giving you more skinks. As for the extra points... well, you could give your scar-vet a magic shield. Enchanted will keep him alive longer; Maiming will help him kill the enemy before they can hurt him.Or you could upgrade your priest or give him another dispel scroll.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely...
but it rocks absolutely, too!
Well, I'm going to go off the beaten path and say take another unit of 20 saurus with full command.
I know it wasn't one of the choices you offer, but there it is.
Ok, sorry for not playing by the rules with that last post, I would take 2 groups of 16 saurus at 1000pts also.
But of those 3, I like the cavalry. They have the speed and can bring the pain!
