I reckon hes worth it, what do you think? I mean, magically, hes potent, and hes not going anywhere. i think if you based a 2500-3000pt list around him you'd have a pretty good army.
For the same points as Kroak you could have a 2* 2nd Gen Slann, or one 2nd Gen Slann with a full unit of 20 temple guard, and 2 skink priests!!
I would only use him if it was a themed game. He is powerful, but he is only a mage. A saurus old blood with the blade of realities could kill him easy!!
Darn! ou beat me to it ^_^
Although I use special caracters when me and some other players agree to a 4000 pts game with a uber special caracter each, this can be a very interesting game and themed.
For example I've played against Morgul's warhound horde and Louen LionCoeur's GK army, lot's of fun!
Old blood with the blade of realities wouldnt do much against Kroak at all, seeing as how Kroak isnt affected by magic weapons, and the whole 6 tuff and 8 wounds, with a 3+ ward in cc. Just a Thought
Yeah I forgot about that ceremonial mace thing of his!!
Still, he could be stopped quite easily by a High mage with the book of Hoeth using Drain Magic on him every turn!! As with all mages, without magic he is weak.
I still maintain he is too expensive to use in battles less than 4000pts, and then only in a themed army.
Not to justify lord kroaks high point cost, but even IF an old blood with a BoR could kill him, he would be specifically tailored just to kill kroak, and he would not cause nearly as much havoc as kroak would. Even with drain magic, kroak would either drain / kill the mage using it on him, or use a scroll from one of his caddy priests, or just ignore it with his massive amount of dice he can throw at your momma!
Hey not going down, really. in any battle, as long as your opponent didnt know you were fielding him he'd stay alive until the end. the question is, whould the destruction that he caused justify his insane points value? i suspect that it would, but has anyone ever fielded the big man?
i dont think your allowed to not tell your opponet. i thought the rule for fieldin him was you had to make your opponets aware that you were. so there for i dont think you can jsut put him up there, and say SURPRISE, your gonna lsoe today.
...and you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, thats what its all about.
well id say he is definately worth it but he can be killed
when i played against him the only thing i could do was load up on dispel scrolls and i got through them so fast and then it was that earthquake spell do you realise it makes the units effected move 2" a turn!!!
the way to kill him is in combat, win combat with an outnumbering fear causing unit (as far as im aware he doesnt cause fear) and then he autobreaks and seeing has he has no combat res youd win anyway
lets agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours are
I dont think that the damage he causes ALONE would earn his points back, but think about it. Many things in warhammer don't need to actuallly kill their points worth to make them worth it (i.e. march blockers, scroll caddies, etc.) but with kroak for example, you can be sure that unless he rolls bad, he can guarentee at least one of any unit on the field will be dead. Even if the unit he kills isn't worth over a thousand points, the enemies battle line is so f***ed up that it gives the lizard player a tactical advantage.
