Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am going to collect LIZARDMEN when i start warhammer but one thing i want to know is why so low intitiative because i know initiative plays a huge role in warhammer/40k and surely lizards would be able to react a lot faster then most other types of armies. Because if i have a squad of Saurus warriors surely i will lose a few models before i even get attacks and where do you take the troops from in CC is it front, back or anywhere.
Please reply if you have any answers to my questions.
Don't think of them as Skinks (an actual Lizard in Australia), or gecko's. These are small lizards that can be quite fast.
Think of them as Blue-Tongues or Sleepy Lizards, which are much slower.
Sorry for the references to Aussie Lizards, they are the only ones for which I have personal experience.
Greetings from Planet X, I hope you enjoy your day.

Game balance. Sure, Saurus initiative could be upped, but their cost would have to be increased as well, which I think most Lizzie players would oppose.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
sure intiative is really bad....really bad. but check there toughness strength and weapon skill. against basic Rank n' File troops, lizzies are gonna do jsut fine. sure they arent goann attack first, but their toughness and basic save in combat is gonan help them out a butt-load. as for your other question, you take them from the back jsut for convience of not screwing up the entire units formation. but they still count as dieing in the front. but the next comabt phase they moved up to fulfil the front of the line. so say 2 saurus die, and they attack second, you have a front of 4 guys, only 2 can attack back, even though you removed the casualties from the back, and then the next turn if none are kileld 4 can attack back...im not sure if this is true or if it made sense. but yeah, i tried.
...and you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, thats what its all about.
Also, in Fantasy, you always attack first in the turn that you charge, unlike in 40k where only Initiative values and cover/grenades can come into play.
actually, initiative isn't as important as the other stats, at least in my opinion. Initiative is a lot more important in say warhammer 40k, as it decided retreat/pursuit rolls, and is never change. Whoever gets the charge goes first so initiative doesn't really matter much. I1 still sucks, but cold blooded MORE than makes up for it.
In addition to the awesome stats that everyone else pointed out, you can upgrade them with spawnings. If you take the Tzunki spawing on a unit of Saurus, for example, it raises their Initiative by one. If you find that they're dying and therefore unable to strike back when their turn comes, try the spawning of Quetzl, which improves their armor save (Quetzl + HW/Shield + Scaly Skin gives them a damn good save for basic infantry).
If you want Saurus with normal or better initiative, you get Chaos Warriors.
For the rest I agree with all the others before me. And don't forget Saurus have 2 base attacks. If half the front line dies, you still get as many attacks as most enemies would have with a full line.
All very true guys, although personally it's not the initiative of Saurus that bothers me, it's their WS of 3. If they're creatures that are bred specifically for the purpose of war and combat, why aren't they a bit better at it?! Seriously, WS3 is the skill of a Empire soldier after basic training, surely Saurus would be better than this? WS4 would be about right I think.
"Peace, through superior firepower."
Well they are basically babies. I would say being able to fight well as a trained soldier just after coming out of the pit is pretty good. Also considering their ferocity is represented by their attacks, they are very good. Now what bothers me is why chaos warriosr are WS5. That is RETARDED
A scar veteran, an amazing saurus warrior that has been around for thousands of years and seen hundreds of battles, is the same WS as a chaos warriors. Who the hell are they? Big white dudes with some armour smacked on them. Throw in some rituals and bondage films and all of the sudden they are like the terminator.
