i played a battle yesterday, and i saw a dragon charge a unit of 20 temple guard with a slaan, and he went through the lot, without once taking a wound. what could be done against this? i mean, other units could have dealt with him, but insofar as the unit of temple guard are concerned, what could they have done? the only thing i can think of is a scar vet in the fron rank of the unit. also, because im magic heavy, i dont want to have to use character slots on scar vets, so i'd rather have another unit/item to deal with the dragon, any ideas? experiences and help would be great, thanks.

Use that Slann's magic against the Dragon.
Get a flank charge with, well, just about anything. Kroxigors would probably be best, to crack the Dragon open and all.
Put any kind of Saurus hero into the Temple Guard, which you mentioned.
I'm rather suprised that a block of TG couldn't even WOUND a Dragon once. They aren't exactly BAD troops...
well, the guy on top had 4 attacks and the dragon 6, all at strenght 6. the 4 temple guard in close combat were all dead by the time it was their turn to strike back. i know, i really couldnt believe it.
i think having kroxigors is more useful for me, i need the hero slots for priests. the only thing im worried about is shooting, seeing as they cant be screened. how do you stop your kroxigors from going down to shooting?

You can give them the banner of -1 to hit from ranged weapons.
You can give them the plaque of 5+ ward save.
Those two in combination should see your Kroxigors through the required turns before they hit combat.
erm, you cant give kroxigor either of those items i dont think. theyre pretty vulnerable to shooting.
Actually, you can screen Kroxies with Skink units (they even have a rule allowing the Kroxies to charge THROUGH them). Kroxies aren't large targets, so this works fine.
Harbish, you need a Standard to give someone a magic banner - and Kroxies can't take a Standard (although you CAN give this to a Saurus BSB and join him to the Kroxie unit, but that's a waste). And Plaques are ONLY allowed on Slann.
You can give both of those to a Kroxigor unit if you place the Slann with it.Originally Posted by will_sanders
Hey, he thought Kroxies were too vulnerable, so I found a couple of ways to protect 'em, both of which involve using the Slann's abilities as part of the squad, sorry I forgot to make that clear.Originally Posted by mEGALOMANIAC
It may be a waste in lower point games, but I recently fielded a Slann in a unit of 7 Kroxies in a 3000 point battle and they chewed through everything they met.
Probably not a trick you can pull twice though.

and if you get in clsoe combat....which is the point of the kroxies i take it....can the slann still cast magic, cuz otherwise thats a ginormous waste of points jsut so the kroxies dont die.
...and you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, thats what its all about.
ok, someone needs to clear this up for me, what are the tournament rules reguarding screening units from shooting? i was told that if the target has a larger base than the screening models, it can be shot. a guy from GW told me this.
hell, if you can screen them with skinks then why bother with having a slaan there?
also, isnt the kroxigor units movement reduced to 4 because of the slaan? hmm...
i do like the idea though.
can you even put a slaan with kroxigors? i really dont think you can.
