I've not long started Lizardmen and have been looking through the various army lists and wanted to know why folks have a scar-vet with a shield and a Great weapon, i thought you can't use both at the same time?
Im currently in the middle of a 1500 list and might take both at the same time?
It might be a little late for your question ,but the answer is that you cannot use both of them in combat. But against shooting, the shield does give you +1 As as normal.
Btw, against units with T3 and a 5+ save max I'd use just the hand weapon. Especially against Gobbos and the sort, with I2. You'll strike before them and do the same amount of damage. And you have a better save.
Thanks for clearing that up, I never actually thought the shield would have been usefull outside combat.
I was going to use a combination of GW, charm of the jaguar and blessing of sotek, so that with the charm i intend to be charging most of the time into combat and hopefully with the GW and extra attack taking out as many as i can.
I take it the same idea goes for the cold one riders that have Spears, Hand weapons + Shield?
No, you can use spears and shields both in combat. Shields are single handed weapons.
If you're playing warmachine-heavy armies and you're above 1k, I suggest you buy him an Aura of Quetzl. Will keep him alive longer.

My first match using my Lizardmen will be 1500 against a Chaos army. I've not seen the list but heard from another he has a hero with the mark of Tzeench and on a floating disk, quit tough too by all acounts. It'll be second game of fantasy battle ever so it could be over quickly
I had chosen the aura of Quetzl for the Scar-vet.and spawnings of Quetzl and Sotek. I wanted to charge him in while my cold one riders back him up, allowing time for the Saurus to come in. The skinks will pick off what they can and i have a unit of chameleons to sit in his deploy zone and pick of wizards at the back... that is the plan anyway I'll post my fulll list in the army list area if your interested

Another armour relatede question.
A Scar-vet has a 5+ armour save with scaly skin. Does he then have a 4+ save with light armour aswell?
As far as i work out, Light armour a base armour save, i didn't think it actually increased the save value of someone that has a natural armour save... :confused:
I just bought the rulebook, but I would assume that light armor increases your save, why wouldnt it? Therefore, a scar vet with light armor, BSo Quetzl, shield, and hand weapon, has a 2+ save to shooting and a 1+ in CC.Originally Posted by Highland Jinx
That's right. With light armour does increase your save. For the save they already have is a Scaly Skin save, look in the rulebook for the rules about Scaly Skin saves.
Thus it is possible to get a 1+ in HtH.
And with an enchanted shield and a cold one mount, you can reach a negative 1+.
