Thou Red crested skink and lesser jungle swarms would be cool and not to talk about the Engine of God! But then I saw that u have to take Sotek on ur warriors, and skinks... Dont know really if 1+A on charge is worth on a already costy 12p warrior with a charge range of 6... What do u guys say?
I say that saurus have a charge range of 8, their normal movement is 4.
Yes ur right... Where in **** did I get 3/6 from? Then its not to shabby... But is it still worth it?
yes, if you're facing a slow army like dwarves. however, If you are playing armies with high movement, like a cavalry list, things dont work too well. But since you likely play a variety of armies, its more about fluff i think when deciding to use a red host.Originally Posted by Balthazar
I would include a unit of saurus with the blessing, but I never found it to be useful on the skinks, especially at a rasied cost. For a tournament list I would most certainly not recomend this list, but the units are cool to paint (always a plus). The only time that this is useful is when you are taking a large cavalry army, because then you can semi-screen them with the skinks in the middle of two large units and attack the inside flanks with the skinks to keep them busy while the cav lines up for a charge. using skinks to charge is an unexpected move, so sometimes it can work.
You could always do a sacred host of sotek instead of paying so much for the spawnings. I think it is about 5 or 10 points a unit instead of 15-30 and your skinks will get the extra attack too, and I think your skink priests get a different law, I can't remember which though. I think thaat the use of special characters (which you have to do in a red host list) detracts from the individuality of the army and takes the fun out of making your own characters, nevertheless, tenehiain is pretty cool ans its the only way lizardmen can get a level 3 wizard.
P.S. Who remembers the days when slaan were still ultimate at magic but also multi attacks, multiwound combat monsterss? Sorry but tehenhauin reminded me of it, even though he is neither an ultimate wizard or a beast at combat but adequate at both. (but not in the same turn)

The Red Host army is a great one, very fluffy and flavourful, and can also be a tournament winner if properly employed.
The Sacred Spawnings are the same costs for both IIRC.
The red crests are a great addition, rank and file skinks with Ws 3, possibly frenzied, on a charge makes them 3 attacks each. they also still hagve that M 6, getting that edges Vs troops and toe to toe Vs ogres.
The lesser swarms look terrible on paper, but 2 fills the same space as jungles with an additionnal wound and attack, for cheaper too.
The Engin Of The gods is a sweet stone throwing chariot with US 8, 4 attacks at impact hits, and causes terror to boot!
But if I play just play a sacred host of Sotek, I will miss the new units, specialy the Engine of God, and that was maybe the reason to play this army list...
don't use saurus in a red host army then.
