Im thinking of starting a fantasy army and the Lizardmen really caught my eye. do you think that i should start with them?...are they a beginner army or are they advanced
I would say they are a great beginner army but IMO are still competitive if you wanna plan in tournaments. Most units are developed for a certain task but can be pretty versatile. WRT army specific traits, lizardmen have cold-blooded which allows you to pass most leadership tests with no problem and they really have no disadvantages there. On the GW website listing the weaknesses of the LM they only really say is their weakness is there are a lot of possibilities and a general will try to be to versatile.
Saurus are great at dishing out attacks and can take them without suffering 2 many casualties. They can hold a charge very well from most things so if you leave them hanging around in the wrong place it's not necessarily the end for that unit.
Skinks are pretty easy to use; you keep them out of combat and shoot things. They can screen your units so make excellent cannon fodder. They are half the points of your saurus so don't be afraid to do so.
In 2000+ points lizardmen are great magic heavy when you use a slann and he's pretty tough so you don't have to go way out of your way to protect him.
Kroxigors, saurus calvary, and the stegadon can all take a beating and still do pretty good.
So overall, I find the army pretty forgiving to beginners mistakes (I made lots of them) so they are a great army to start with. Hope I helped a bit and that that made sense.
I think that they are a great starter's army. There is a lot of variety in troops and they can be quite forgiving.
