Welcome to Librarium Online!
Do I spend 194 points on three Kroxigors (including a champ) or should I get five Saurus Cav (including a champ) at 195? They are to operate up one wing of my Saurus infantry blocks and will be accompanied by three units of swarms.
Any advice much appreciated.
depends really, kroxigors have high strength good toughness and armour with multiple wounds, great for knocking off knights and chaos nasties and any other amoured brute you come against, plus that cool rule that allows the unit to charge through a skink screen gives it that much more protection and to surprise the enemy.
the saurus cav, i'm thinking of getting a box of these as they are good at protecting flanks and charging the enemy's, even though skinks are slower us them were possible as both units do tend to attract a lot of firepower and magic so keep them at your flanks and protect them because you need them to outflank your enemy and to support your own units, they both cause fear, dont forget that, as fear in my case help me in a lot of close games.
that near enough sums it up, the choice is yours really as both units are fun to play with, i hope this was of some help
http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...orthwhile.html (Are Saurus Cold One Riders actually worthwhile?) <-- old post that goes over it pretty well.
They kinda have different rolls. Krox bust open armor really nicely while saurus cav. are better for killing lower armor things and it isn't overkill and what not. Anyway just check out the post.
In addition to advice to read that topic,
Something else people tend to forget: CoR have M7. Not only are they faster, they also fall in the 3D6 Flee and Pursuit rules. A very potent thing, not to be underestimated.
But if you're looking for something to open tin-cans or bust chariots Krox are definitely your bet.
On a side note, I wouldn't take a Krox Champion. 1 extra attack isn't worth that many points.
For the CoR a musician might serve you well.
Thanks for all the comments.
I hadn't really thought about the extra movement but it would be good to have. I have a Cold One unit in my DE army and they are either brilliant or chronic, but they are only T3!. I've never really found stupidity to have a huge effect and with the Lizards cold-blood it shoud be even less of an issue.
I was hoping someone would comment on the Kox chmp as I am unsure about it's value.
Here is how I see the whole army in case this affects your views: The Krox\COriders are to operate on one wing with 3 swarms, 2 Saurus squads in the centre and an Oldblood on Carnosaur leading six salamanders on the other flank. Skink Priest and Scar leader battle standard bearer operating behind the Saurus.
I think that the kroxigor champ is really good. Not only do you get the extra attack, but in CC your opponent must declare which models are attacking the champ and which are fighting the rest. So its entirely possible for your opponent to cause three wounds in a round of combat and you not having to take a model away, leaving you with 10 lovely strength 7 attacks back
I have found that CoR are really good, if u have a unit of five then on the charge thats 10 strength 5 attacks and 5 strength four attacks, which aint too shabby. I think they're brilliant.
i think i would be tempted to go for the cavarly in your case as you can always give your oldblood a GW and let him go chariot hunting.
I assume ur playing plenty of skinks, just remember that swarms are small and so wont screen your cav/krox, which have a tendancy to get shot
That's just what i think neways
Kroxi's tend to be more popular, but each have their strengths and weaknesses.
I have Kroxigor myself and they haven't lasted an entire battle yet, so I may get some Cav to see if I can do any better with them.
Wood Elves 2/0/1
Orcs & Goblins 0/1/0
Next Army - Tomb Kings
They haven't last you a whole battle yet? Do you use skink screens? My krox units have never died completely yet. Of course I haven't played that many battles either (5-10 I'd say). The skinks screen them from shooting then they charge right through withought exposing themselves. Unless you oponent has stuff on a hill, magic, or the charged unit is better in CC(not likely in general) then they should be fine for the first turns and after that your scouting skinks should be being a pain in any shooting units buts by that point for sure. So generally my krox are a important part of my army(usually 1000-2000) so I always protect them.
As for SCOR lasting longer I wouldn't really count on it. Same T I think, one better AS, and only 1 wound per model. Only the expensive 8-10 units would match the amount of wounds. Anyway that's just my 2 cents.
I'm not using skinks, so it looks as though the cav are the better option. My swarms are there to guard the saurus blocks so I don't want to lose them, but most comments about the Krox seem to suggest that one of their big advantages is being able to charge through the skinks.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Yeah, I find the skink screen is absolutely necessary for the kroxigors, they're a hug target without it and I think you pay for the screening ability in thier points cost so it's comparible to buying the scouting ability for skinks and always deploying them like normal.
