Lizardmen have horrible initiative, for the most part (yes i know skinks aren't bad off when it comes init). How do you deal with it? Is it something that requires a lot of consideration in your games or do you just play through as you might with another higher initiative army. It seems to me that one would just have to be careful to try and get the charge whenever one can. Anyway some idea of how to overcome this drawback would be nice.
I would have put this in the Thinking of Starting Lizardmen... thread but its so old you cant add anything to it.
For most part; mostly like any other army...
I think that you should focus on getting the charge in, and then just remember when you don't: There is a reson for that nice T...

One of the bigger advantages of lizardmen is the fact that even most of their core troopers can take a good hit and keep slugging it out. Lizardmen are very nicely balanced. The initiatives on the saurus, kroxigors, swarms, etc., are made up for with the durability they have.
ok i dont have an army yet and that was my only real concern with starting Lizardmen
first of all krox carry great weapons and have 7 str. they attack last even if they had high initiative,Originally Posted by Mishra
jungle swarms dont need it they have 5 poisoned attacks per base and kill most small core units they come up against on the charge and then hold them for the rest of the game, again initiative is not a part of it.
saurus is the only core that could be better with a bit of initiative, and i have found that if my saurus have a poor dice roll on there charge that they can get alot of casualties in the enemies retaliation attacks, this is when it is nice to have a scar vet in the unit so this doesnt happen and also have all your saurus with the 1+ to scaly skin save mark on them.
Cebwj, we indeed don't have to good an initiative. But even with our I1 most enemy infantry fears our Saurus.
And if we also had good initiative Saurus would become more expensive. They'd be Chaos Warriors.
Against enemies with a lot of I2 (like Dwarfs) it also pays off to give your Saurus the Spawning of Tzunki which brings you on even foot with them.
Saurus can usually survive a battle of attrittion, due to their high toughness and multiple S4 attacks.
I would sooner see saurus have WS4 than a higher initiative
Yeah that WS 3 worried me till i saw the two attacks at S 4 course if they had WS 4 they would be unstoppable
