Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have just started playing and I do not really like the other rare choice so I think I am going to play two stegadons. It gives me some ranged firepower against big things and best of all terror against horde armies. Anyways please give me so feedback on how you feel about them.
I play a stegadon pretty much every time I play now, mostly because he's a huge dinosaur with impact hits. That is exactly what he's used to do, run into things and win combat. IMO using him as a bolt thrower is almost completely pointless. I could see if your army is static or near that point, you could use the bolt thrower for a turn or two and then run up into a flank but a salamander is much more effective for this role.
When you do use a stegadon, keep him close to ur general. I can't emphasize that enough. He does have stubborn cold-blooded ld. 5, but that really isn't enough. You need your general close incase the steg loses combat or needs to take an Ld. test for any other reason.
I think your best bet if you want ranged firepower and hard-hitting power. Take a stegadon and a few salamanders as your other rare choice. You probably won't regret it. When I started, I didn't like the kroxigors so much but I bought some because I heard so much praise. Now I use kroxigors in EVERY army list I make for my lizzies.
Firstly bear in mind that you don't have to max out on rare choices. Don't feel obliged to play two stegadons simply because it will fill up your rare slots.
Secondly, salamanders are amazing, one of my favourite LM choices. They can cause so much damage its unbelievable.
Evan8433 is right when he says keep it near to your general, ld 5 can't be relied on. I also agree when he says don't even think about the giant bow, if it's ranged attacks you want, then go for the salamanders(Y)
Finally to Evan8433. I was the opposite when i saw Krox. I thought they were amazing at first but now i tend not to include them at all!
I love salamanders and stegadons, my salamanders are awesome, they mow down armies of skaven/elves/humans/undead/orks every turn, each one can kill up to 10 models a turn. Stegadon is great with its impact hits on an enemy unit and terror causing but pretty much just ignore the giant bow and take any kills it gets as an added bonus, it rarely does anything but when it does, it is fun. If your looking for a little more ranged support, salamanders, if your looking for some anti horde, salamanders, if your looking for some anti heavy infantry such as dwarves or chaos warriors then the steggie is great.

I am not so sure about the above, a stegadon flank charge with support from another unit will do well against dwarves or chaos warriors. But a stegadon doesn't seem to have the combat ability to break a large elite unit like chaos warriors on its own. It is more likely that it will lose by CR and break due to its low leadership.if your looking for some anti heavy infantry such as dwarves or chaos warriors then the steggie is great
The giant bow really does nothing, i can't remember ever when it has done anything significant or even worth noticing. Saying that stegadons are awesome, impact hits and then tons of attacks is brilliant and i think some people tend to underestimate that greatly. I have been thinking about getting a 2 stegadon army for awhile, i am not so fond of salamanders either to be honest, but mainy because stegadons i just like them soo much.
As people have said though just becareful where you put it, Ld can be a big problem and although sustained combats aren't too bad for it static CR is the killer. The other thing i guess is not to forget that the crew are armed with javalins i think just as terradons are.
