Hey, I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand thinking up some good warband ideas for the LM. I don't own the book or any models yet, but i have decided that the Lizards will be my army. Me and my friends are all getting into Warhammer Fantasy after playing 40k for a few years, and we thought Warbands would be a fun way to play right away with few models.
So, any suggestions on what I should start out with? I was thinking of doing an all Skink army, so if anyone could tell me how good they think such an army would fight would be a big help.
Also, where can I find information on the special Lizardmen armies, like the Red Host of someone-something. Is it in the army book? I was thinking that playing a special army might be cool too.
Thanks a lot for your help!
EDIT: oops, I forgot to mention that we will be playing with warbands ranging from 250 points to 500 points.

Weeeeel, this severly limits things but it is still possible to create a fun and really competitive army list.EDIT: oops, I forgot to mention that we will be playing with warbands ranging from 250 points to 500 points.
Simply put, skinks are your friends!
Skinks are very cheap troops, they skirmish, can be upgraded to scouts AND (my personal favourite) they have poisoned weapons. In small games, poisoned weapons can make all the difference.
Also, skink chiefs and priests are very cheap as well (though i wouldn't bother with the priests at the outset) and can have lovely magic items.
Saurus would be superb at such low points battles but may be too expensive for your list at anything less than 500 points.
Here are a few example lists,
- light armour
- blowpipe (joins skink unit 1) 65
1- Skink Skirmishers (19)
- Brave 119
2- Skink Skirmishers (20)
- Scouts 145
Total = 229
This list is for (obviously) REALLY small battles the next one being for bigger ones.
Saurus Scar Veteran
- light armour
- Spawning of quetzl
- Halberd 106
- light armour
- Blowpipe (would join skink unit) 65
Skink Skirmishers (19-20 depending on general)
- Brave 119 - 125
15 Saurus Warriors
- full command 210
Total = 435 - 441
This list has the saurus for a bit more melee might and i made them a unit of 15 to save points and $ (16 come in a box) and they are still 5 models wide allowing them rank bonuses.
This is how i would start out with the lizardmen as (IMO) both skinks and saurus are necessities for any lizardmen forces and it is easy to build from here.
As for their effectiveness, in such small battles you shouldn't come up against ANYTHING you cant face with relative confidence. Saurus are more than apt at taking on enemy infantry formations and the skinks poison weapons negate toughness so there should not be ANY enemy (in small points games anyway) that you cant handle.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!

Thanks for the reply, Captain Snowball!
Yes, 250-500 is very limited, but that is the rule for warbands. I will have more models than that, since i am buying the battalion box, but with warbands i dont have to get it ALL painted before i can play. (I hate playing with unpainted models...)
So does anyone have any information on the special army i asked about? The red host of _?_?_?_?
Where would I find the info on such an army list?
