First off a little intro.
Ok so i ahvent played since grade 6-7 so 10 years or so, but i recently desided to pick it up again partly casue i enjoy painting and partly cause warhammer Online got me pumped and its over a year away from release so what better way to quench my thrist for Warhammer then to jumped back inot the TT.
Anyway i ahve been on these forums and the warhammer webpage for over a week rakcing my brain trying to deside what army i wanted to play, and honesly i went over every army like four times never even looking at Lizard men. I finaly desided "what the hell" i will take a look and honestly i was like holy **** these guys seem awsome within 20 minutes of looking through the forums, and after taking a look at the models i all could think was "man i could do so many different things color sceme wise".....they dont ahe to be greeen right ? lol
Ok sorry taht was a little long but i am excited that i probably found my army...
Anyways here is wha ti need help with, I jsut bought the skull pass box set (a few days ago) and i ahvent opened it yet cause well to be honest i am college student living on about 40$ canadian a week so essenitally i am poor lol. So ya i havent opened it yet cause well if i do then ia hve to play either dwarf or goblin because i cant afford both the rule book and the lizard man codec plus some lizard man units.
So my question is can i start bulding my lizard man army with out the rule book( would prob get it at christmas) or is the rule book essential to have before you start an army cause if its not ia mreturning the box set today and getting the codec.
Anyways thanks in advance and sory for the length of the post.
Well, I think I know what you are saying so I will try to respond. I would say that if you intend to just build your army now but not play it, than you do NOT need the official rule book. I would say the most important thing you should buy is the Codex. The reason being, you will want to know what kind of army you are intending to build and what to buy as a result.
If you cannot afford the codex, I would suggest that you just pick up a box of saurus warriors and a box of skinks. You will more than likely use both unless you make some crazy list that doesn't use one or the other. Most balanced lists use them in tandum.
So to recap, buy the codex and a couple of units, perhaps even the battalion box if you know that you are going to use the models. But the codex is extremely important.
Biships. For a few minutes i actually closed this thread, before i decided that it wasn't beyond saving.
However, i have little time/patience for poor spelling. Please make the appropriate changes to your post, or i shall do it for you

People! Codices are 40k, fantasy has Army Books.
Sorry about that, but this sort of thing annoys me.
Anyway to your question, I'm new (to the High Elves actually) and I don't have the rulebook. I want the first game with them to be with beautiful minis, so I'm taking time painting them first. I do have the army book though, and have been fiddling around with army lists. I'd recommend you buy the army book basically because it lets you put a list together so you know just what models you actually need to buy. That could easily end up end up saving you money.
