Do you think a Lizardmen army with no skinks or magic would work? (at about 1,000pts)
I'd have to take some Tepok spawnings to counteract some of my opponents magic and as many salamanders as I can carry because they shoot and cause fear and I love those things...... Many many saurus marching across the battle field, slaughtering all in their path..:rofl:
Lots of scar-veterans, no priests or anything.
What is your opinion?
because against shooty and magic heavy armies your tough saurus will have a tough time marching or even surviving against these types, the skinks are just there to provide a screen which will abosorb any shooting and magic long enough for the saurus to do what they do best, the skinks priests are there mainly for the role of magic defense and a little bit of offense depending on the enemy that you face,
the bottom line is skinks need saurus, saurus needs skinks its what balances the whole army out, either way, its your choice
I've heard of and played with all skink armies before, but i don't think i've come across no skink armies:wacko:
Skinks are pretty darn hip for their points cost(Y) Is there any reason you don't wish to field any?
As for no magic, it is a viable option, as long as you have a solid defence with plenty of tepok and maybe a priest for some scrolls or the diadem.
But i'm not really sure how it would work at 1k points
3 Scar-veterans, all with the charm of the jaguar warrior!
That should take out any nasty shooty units.

Are Kroxigor worth it?
At 4x the price, you still have the same toughness, you go last, and the ws is crap.
youre faster (which is good for this army) and you have lots of wounds+attacks and you kill chariots easy.
If so, how many would be needed, do you think?

Lizardmen armies that are magic free are all well and good, but no skinks!! Thats not too good!!
Skinks are one of the best units in the lizardmen army.....they skirmish, they have poison, they are aquatic, they shoot twice, they are dirt cheap, they look cool, they can scout and they are cold-blooded.....hell, skinks can do almost everything!!
As for taking magical defence, the tepok spawning is nice and all but it is still points..... Often enough if you spend the points that would otherwise be spent on magic on more troops (skinks dammit!!) then you wont need the magical defence....
I have played no magic armies up to 2000 points and done fairly well...the secret?? LOTS of skinks and saurus warriors. Most armies simply cant match up to the efficency and prowess of the lizardmens basic troops!!
Kroxigors? hmmm....your right they are pricey and so on and so forth, BUT, they also have a nice movement (as you mentioned), they are aquatic and they can hide behind a skink skirmisher screen and still charge!!
Kroxigor make excellent counter chargers and flankers. A group of 3-6 has a wopping 9-18 wounds and combined with cold blooded they can take a hit from almost any unit in the game, shrug it off and then the fun starts....Almost nothing can stand up to 9+ str 7 attacks...knights dont have the numbers and infantry just cant do enough damage
So yes, it can be worthwhile to take them, but i would suggest selecting your core choices first then splurging on kroxigors (NEVER take more than 6....they are simply too pricey)
And for your scar vets, simply stick them on cold ones (the two that dont have the charm), with cold blooded they will likely pass atupidity tests and a movement of 14 is still fairly nice...the added armour save is handy as well!!
