ok hey all im new to lizardmen and this forums so i got a couple of questions. i have played multiple games of warhammer fantasy as dwarfs and lizzy's(i consider myself a big noob amung noobs) and so i thought yes i will collect an army. after i finished nocking up my blood bowl team of lizardmen i noticed i had an uncanny talent for painting the little scaily guys. so i got the lizardmen army book and the rulebook. i read the rules and yay i know them pretty well but from past experiences i lost against skaven...twice...really bad infact. at the moment i am starting with the battleforce set and an extra box of skinks..i am also planning on buying a scar-vet and 1 or 2 skink preists. so after all this rambling finally i will ask my question. what kind of an army should i put together for 1500pts with these figures and what should i purchase next.
very much thanks in advance
The lizardmen boxed set is one of the best in the game IMO as it only contains exceptionally useful units....
Firstly, your two core units, saurus warriors and skinks. In any 1500 point army you should be fielding at least 1-2 saurus units of 16+ models as these guys are amongst the most resilient, combat/points effective core units in the game....
Secondly, skinks are your friends!! With their skirmishing, aquatic, cold-blooded, 2x shots, poison, cheapness and their ability to be upgraded to scouts they can be suited for sooooo many roles.
March blocking, character hunting, war machine hunting, using poison they can even take down monsters and high toughness character, not to mention they move quite happily through water!!
Skinks and saurus are invaluable elements to the lizardmen force!!
And to make things even better....you bought another box of skinks!! (btw, you may have noticed my mention of poisoned 2x attacks......blowpipes are the key to eternal happiness!)
A scar-veteran is a superb general for low points cost armys.....read the thread lower down the page on generals under 500 points for everyones thoughts on just how good they are....
Cavalry are nice because of coldblooded, meaning that the stupid (literally) cold ones are more controllable meaning you can put their high strength, toughness and fear to use as shock troops...
Skink priests are fantastic as scroll caddy's and for utilising the ever brilliant lore of the heavens!! Wonderful....
Put quite simply, the purchases you mentioned above would make for a great starting force for any lizardmen player....simply add everything you have into the army list and you should be set!!
Next, maybe you should consider a unit of kroxigors 3-4 models strong....these guys are great flankers with very high strength attacks, they are fairly fast, they cause fear, they are aquatic and they can be used superbly in conjunction with skink skirmishers!!
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
Chuck Norris invented water
thanks man ill take all of that into consideration, but what you said brought another question about.
ive read the rules and so forth and correct me if im wrong but don't blowpipes hit on a 6+ if they move:wacko:. after seeing this i thought maybe the javelins were the way to go but once again im torn between the simplistic yet ever so annoying 2 choices of a units weapons. on top of this i have heard that skinks are always really good however in the last two games i played against skaven(a SAD force unfortunately) skinks were just shot down(probly on my bad positioning of course) and this annoyed me so how should i tackle an opponent like skaven when my little freinds die from one volley of ratling guns.
ps. the two games i played where with cut out peices of cardboard the correct size of the ranks etc and a peice of paper to keep wounds recorded. i deffinately recomend this idea for any players unsure of an army and want to have a go before they buy their stuff. just gotta find a freind to agree to such a ploy:shifty:
SAURUS SAY RAAAH!!
the thing is,
skinks are cannon fodder/shields for your meaty, hard hitting units and are made to get shot to pieces, thats why they're so cheap.
they also have a few other useful roles such as softening up units (giants in my opinion, the horror on my opponents face, its a picture), when i equip my skinks i go all way towards shooty skinks by equiping them with blowpipes, with a 6+ save they don't have much protection, in my opinion stick with the blowpipes,
but thats just me...
i too second on that front of cutting out card bases, or using spare bases if there are any it helps prevent making the wrong desision over the type of army with best suits your style of play,
at least i'm not alone at doing that...
heres my advice use it well if you want to, and here's some rep on the temporary models idea zippy-tang and welcome to LO!
For the Old Ones!
thanks heeps guys but still stuck on the blowpipes hitting on a 6+ thing when moving thing. i guess those sixes are all ya need anyways.
SAURUS SAY RAAAH!!
Exactly. It's all about the poison when it comes to skinksi guess those sixes are all ya need anyways.
