Hi guys, I've been playing Bretonnians for about 8-12 months now and I've gotten very bored with the one-dimensionalness of the army. So I've decided to start up a new army, something that has alot more varied uses and tactics. So I've narrowed it down to 2 armies at the moment, Tomb Kings and Lizardmen. I was pretty much set on Tomb Kings since they do have a more varied approach tactically than Bretonnians and they also are more challenging to play.
However, recently afew people have suggested that I take a look into Lizardmen as well. I've browsed through the army book but haven't had a chance to get a good read through of it. So I wanted to ask everyone here some basic army questions and get their opinions on which army they think I should go with.
So basically I'm looking for an army that has some tactical variety. I want something that is somewhat challenging to play. I'd like an army that has somewhat strong magic ability (Brets in my opinion have possibly the worst/weakest magic in the game), but I don't want to sacrifice all my CC ability to be magially strong. Tactically I can play both offensively and defensively or anywhere inbetween. However, I enjoy playing agressive more than passive, but I'm happy to play defensively if thats what it takes to get the job done.
Also, how much is the low leadership of the Lizardmen going to be an issue. I know ideally the General or BSB would be within 12" but that isn't always feasable.
Thanks in advance for all the feedback, I appreciate the time everyone takes to reply.
In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with either option as they are both armies with a lot of variety.
The leadership for your Lizardmen won't be an issue with the Cold-blooded rule. They rarely fail leadership tests for me, except for my flighty Kroxigor.
Both armies have great magic, with the advantage going with the Tomb Kings as they can't miscast. You need a 4th Gen Slaan to get that with Lizardmen.
Whichever option you go with will be a good one, so it may just come down to what you would prefer painting.
Wood Elves 2/0/1
Orcs & Goblins 0/1/0
Next Army - Tomb Kings
Lizardmen are a jack of all trades army. They can either be magic heavy (2nd Gen Slann) of magic defensive. They have strong heroes and great foot troops in skinks and saurus.
They have great special and rare choices as well, from the hard hitting CoR to the fast and deadly Terradons.
Leadership isn't usually that much of an issue for me, keep the general nearby and everything should be fine. The BSB will also help any failed break tests (Y)
I think the Khemri are slightly more challenging to use than the lizards, but I prefer the lizards. Although I am biased of course! ^_^
Decided to go with the Lizards, the all around balance they present is what won me over. So hopefully I'll be getting some models soon so I can get an army painted and get the kinks worked out soon .
I see you've already picked your new army... myself, I have been playing TK for 4 months(first FB army) and have now decided to build a Lizard Man army as well. I wanted to have a "good guy" army... Both have very nice models with good conversion ops and take well to a fun color schemes.
drat, they've all beat me to the punch:'(, ahh well good luck with you're new army the 2nd generation slannis the best in my books, although i havn't faced a TK army before...
