New here...I played along long time ago....before lizardmen army was even around. Recently back into and what I have read on the forum here so far and seen of the models they look tempting for my first army. Just curious what kind of play style or rather how is this army played? Alot of rules are differant to me...like how you pick your army units and magic and stuff but just would like a general idea of what I can expect with the Lizzies
lizardmen are great in that they have a variety of play styles available to them. Then can go magic heavy and fairly static or be a swift charging army. The only limiting factor is that because the average unit is fairly expensive they will never have a true horde. Southlands lists (all skinks) are about as close as you can come to that, and they are not particularly competitive.
Most of your units are very survivable, and every unit is a considerable option. there are no weak links among the lizards. Most lists will involve saurus, one of the most solid infantry blocks in the game.
Lizardmen are great at close quarter (Saurus are arguably the best core unit in WH), and also excel at magic (Slann are THE best wizard in WH).
But even with the Skinks poisonous blowpipes, LM have little in the way of ranged attacks, it's one of LM's few weaknesses.

Ok....I see....sounds pretty cool. Couple more questions
Can the Kroxigors still be in a unit of skinks or was that an old rule that got abandoned?
Can the Lizzies stand up to a fear heavy teams? My friend is a Vampire Count....
Kroxigor are still able to charge through Skinks if that's what you mean.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
No....I remember reading an older lizardmen book and it clearly had a Kroxigor in the middle of a skink unit. I remember always thinking that was such a cool unit. Does any older Lizzie playes remember this unit setup?
Kroxigors & skinks can not combine into the same unit in the present rules; I don't know how it used to be.
Lizardmen tend to be very good at opposing fear-heavy armies. They have several fear-causing models, which are immune to other fear. Those that don't have fear are still Cold Blooded, making it hard to make them run.
Hope that helps,
Bad Hat Harry
Here a Oldblood, as I've been playing Lizards for like a decade now. Skinks don't operate in regiment formations anymore, only skirmish. So GW made a new rule for Kroxigors so they are still linked to skink units. They can now charge through a unit of skinks.
As for your original question, are lizardmen nice to play? I think they are, the skinks are you first wave of assault with their short ranged blowpipes. Either enemies don't think the skinks are important enough to concern them, big mistake, or they concentrate to much effort on getting rid of them. In the later that gives your close combat troops, like saurus and kroxigor, enough time to reach the enemy.
Skinks that aren't dealt with can be a real pain in the side of any army as they can block march moves, kill lone characters, occupy warmachines so they can't shoot or just shoot up the enemy units with their poisoned attacks.
Once a small unit of skinks took down a Demon Prince for me, you should have seen the look on the face of my opponent.
As all lizardmen are cold-blooded they are specially good at resisting leadership based test like fear and panic. (though they used to be even better with it in the 5th edition)
Lizardmen units are kinda specialized, skinks are really bad in CC and saurus can't shoot what so ever, but if you get the hang of combining their specialties they are really deadly.
I recommand you watch a few battles, at the local GW for example, so you can see different armies on the table.
Well I'm talking to long again, thats the reason I usually don't post on forums hehe
