So I have been trying to get my commission painted miniatures business off the ground, so far so good. Currently working on quite a large commission and I have had a nice few quotes sent out to potential clients however, I want to be different than all of these typical companies. I want to save you guys some money in the process. Now my first Idea about that was running my prices as low as possible, because I find it fun to do anyway in my spare time, the hobby is expensive regardless and also it sets me apart from other companies.
Now with the new increase of prices at the games workshop life will get harder for hobbyists and myself in trying to bloom a company out of nothing. So I came up with a solution, a 3 party trade off in which everyone will win. So the general idea is that if a client wants a commission project and the prices are looking abit steap ( even at the cheap prices I charge ) they then have the option of trading in old models, recieving a price quote for them models and recieving a discount of that amount off of their project, admittedly the price will have to be fairly low but this is a scheme for unwanted miniatures that are just kicking around doing nothing. Does not matter if they are broken, badly painted etc... So long as the figure is reasonably in tact or repairable then it is fine. The quote will be based on the items condition etc... After that it will then either be uploaded onto the stock trade part of the website with a price attatched ( the price will be 2 or 3 pound higher than the original price bought for otherwise it would make no sense from a business perspective ) then this can be used for a project for a client if they decide they would like that instead of a brand new one. This could just be bought as is or for a fee I would refurbish the model(s) and have them sent out.
This sort of project is the answer I think because I will make profit and gain more business from it, the original client trading in will save money and the client purchasing the model will aswell. As I said it would only really be for models that are kicking around, gathering dust or just taking up space and you want rid of them, but even I have models like that, I'm sure many of you are the same. Anyways, I will poll this for a simple good / bad idea, and I would love some feedback about this and how to improve it. Thanks for your time guys.
