Suprisingly my favorite model is the only one without a nipple showing. The one by Mrike. Anybody recognize what model that is?

She seems to be looking at something while using her hands. Basiaclly it shows what is going on in her mind very well without it being obvious such as screaming and waving a big club or something.

I envision her as a quiet observer, perhaps a witch of some kind, looking at some her subject (perhaps her victim), fingers in her blood bowl, mouthing a few silent words to a dark ritual. Those eyes are down right penetrating. It's amazing how much of a model's ambiance is conveyed through the eyes alone. The artist has effectively created a reality at the fore of this miniature through her gaze. It's a fine work of art (real art). This model reminds me of the art movement in the 1930's known as American Regionalism, where artists typically depict the impoverishment of the poor. In the 30's most American artists gave their subject glorified poses and sweaty brows. However, Grant Wood's American Gothic conveys the exact same struggle through his subject, but in a similar way as seen in this miniature- through subtle poses and immense gravity in the subjects' eyes. It's just my opinion, but the hardships of the 30's seems much more realistic through subjects that are posed in actual human stances. They're not contrived. I actually know people like those depicted in American Gothic, because they're real folks, unlike the typical American Regionalism painters, who strive to put all of the emotion in the action, rather than the people themselves. Here's American Gothic. We're all familiar with it: ![]() Here's another American Regionalist painter (Woodruff- 'Poor Man's Cotton). Who here actually has seen this work before? Not many, I reckon, because it doesn't do the subjects' justice, and so, it never gained the popularity of Wood's American Gothic.

The man's lower eyelids are raised a little which shows in a way he isn't happy about someone looking at him. Or he has other things on his mind work, bills etc. the woman looking near but past him seems to show she knows she has things to do. Housework etc. The overall immpression is one of we aren't about to go out for a shin-dig or general fun. | |

It would be an interesting study, if someone started a thread that compares some of the various great works of arts to some of the high quality miniature paint jobs. There's a surprising amount of similarity between the two.

That first one made me laugh! ![]() But what really drew my attention and what I'm liking is the blue/white flame out of the space marine's jump pack. Its very well done.
