Rep Power: 29 ![]() ![]() | After a few seconds of deep thought and contemplation, I've decided to scratch-build a Chaos Titan! Out of plasticard! Admire the hastiness and downright foolishness! :party2: Trouble is, I've never used plasticard for ANYTHING bigger than minor alterations to existing Citadel models, such as neck guards or shoulder pads. So, in order to make my dream a reality, I need to know everything! Such as: + What thickness is best for a model this size? + Will regular polycement/superglue work on it? + How best to use it? + Online stores that sell it? + How much will I need for a model this size? If anyone knows of a guide detailing all this, or can give me tips and help via this thread, I will be forever in their debt. (think rep!) Thanks, Mike Last edited by thewineguy; August 31st, 2007 at 13:46. |

g'day ill try and answer a few of your questions. 1. id suggest using 2mm thick card for the main structure, 1mm for any "paneling" detail work over the main components, then .07 or 0.5mm for any smaller details, or for anything curved. 2.Poly cement works perfectly 3. Use a metal ruler, a sharp knife and a pacer to mark the plasticard. Score a line, then snap. To add strength you could always build the structure around lego blocks 4. I buy all mine off Ebay. Search for sheet styrene, i find it alot cheaper than going to a hobby store. Ive also been told sign writers and sign writer suppliers can be a good place for bulk amounts at a good price, but ive never tryd them myself (the biggest thing ive made is a shadowsword and its only taken about (AU)$5 worth of plastic so far.) 5. Not sure, ill let you know when i build mine (next project on my to do list) another couple of suggestions: 1st, buy yourself lots of different diameter plastic tube that fit inside each other for all the hydraulics and weapon systems. 2nd, goto the WIP forums (s-1-1.-i-n-v-i-s-i-o-n-f-r-e-e.com/Work_In_Progress/) and do a search for warhound, titan and knight, to have a look at some other peoples work for some truly stunning and inspiring works. (sorry youll have to cut and paste the address above then remove all the -. LO never wants to link to WIP) Hope that helps Cheers

I was thinking of making a tian and using blocks of styrofoam covered in plasticard so that it's stronger. D you reckon this would work okay?

Plasticard is nice, but expensive(keep this in mind) I've seen gresat results from people using thin, stiff pressed cardboard as the structure material and then using the plasticard to add detail. I would suggest getting an assortment of the non textured plasticard for different applications.

you can always use plastic cutting boards from a dollar store. They are fairly flexible, you get two square foot sheets, and it only costs a dollar!! :drinking:

Ok all, update! Seeing the templates of the Titan, I've chickened out slightly and decided to scratch-build a Baneblade instead. So far I've built the basic construct using thick-ish card and it's looking quite nice. I've also ordered 4 sheets of cheap non-textured plasticard from eBay, which should arrive in 3-4 days (probably more like 5 due to our dodgy postal service over in the UK). When it arrives, I can carry on with the Baneblade, which so far is looking HUGE. I've decided to use this thread as my project log, so keep checking back for updates. First pics of the cardboard build should be up later today. Also, does anyone know how to change a thread title (if possible), so it's moe obvious what the thread's about? Thanks again, Mike. |

To change the title, you go to your first post, press the Edit-button in th elower right corner. Once the edit menue opens you click the "go advanced". That'll give you the option to edit your title |

g'day i have to say good call on changing your mind from the titan to the baneblade, it will be so much easier to start with (i started off making a landraider, and it was harder than the stormsword). The titan is so much effort, you really have to commit to it full on. i think with the baneblade the only real problem you will face is the weapons. i was better off buying the bitz of ebay rather than trying to scratch build them all myself. (i could do it now, but its still easier to just buy the weapons). also if your using the BB plans from the old WD, your BB wont come out looking like the current FW model. There are better things out there but its against the rules to talk about them so i wont. *edit* forgot to mention that you could always try foamcore as a better alterative to card, we dont get it in auusie land, but i think over in mudIsle its everywhere and cheap Cheers

Merh, I tried your trick Andusciassus, but it changed the little title at the top of my post rather than the thread title. Ah well, that'll have to do. Maybe I'll start a new thread just for the log. @Beatonthis: Thanks for the advice, too late to change this first batch of plasticard, but maybe I'll try foamcore when I get to the Titan. As for templates, I'm not using the old WD ones, I'm actually using one designed by someone on Warseer that very closely resembled the FW version. So no problems there. And the weapons, I did consider scratch-building them but quickly decided on buying them, like you said. The demolisher cannon and main gun I'm going to build myself, though (just a bit of tubing, after all). Mud Isle seems appropriate. They call this summer? I've barely taken off my coat all year.
