V. Basic and easy - Storm Troopers to Chaos Storm Troopers???

I'm thinking of doing a renegade armoured company (using IG rules but chaos looking)

I have a squad of storm troopers in there, I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how I could chaos up storm troopers...

I'm very inexperienced in converting, so the easier the idea the better :-)

If you have horns laying around your bits box you can use them...

If not... try the painting method. You can paint them as you like and draw a red X on the Imperial Aquila...

you could pick up some flagalents(empire), there are tons of chains and torches that could be used as accessories on the normal kaserkin models.

Or, if you want a more dynamic aproach, you could buy some elysian drop troop heads with resperators 16$ for 12 heads, some cadian sprues, and some flagelents, some guitar string as well, and maybe a chaos accessary sprue. You could use the cadians as a base, use the elysian heads, place the guitar string running from the gun to the backpack to make them into hell guns, and then use bits from the chaos accessory sprue and flagelents to chaos them up.

The most important thing is to get rid of the Imperial Iconography on the models.

So any aquila and imperial unit identification has to go. You can do that by cutting/filing/dremeling (if that is a word???) them off.

Typically Chaos is associated with spikes, chaose stars and arrows and of course the symbols of the chaos gods. So replacing the imperial symbols with these in any shape or form should help.

Putting spikes on the models should help. Painting on scars or battledamage should also work (as they don;t have the ressources to maintain their equipment or enough medical staff).

You can try to put mutations of various sorts onto the models (if you are adventurous).

And of course the color scheme should also help. You will fisn that each chaos god has colors associated with it. Most IG units serving the emperror have some form of camo scheme or some sort of parade uniform. Chaos typically goes for different colors (red and blacks seem to be fairly famous).

You dn't necessarily have to fully remove the aquial. Giveing a good hack at it makes it look like they've had a go at defiling it themselves.

Try cutting chaos stars into the armour or even skin. Like said above though the painting will help and IMO will be one of the main factors of whether the look will work.

Adding a few spiky bits and making sure they're aquilas are properly hacked - I'd already considered I didn't want to remove them, just deface them. The battle damage sounds good too!

The idea involving Elyseans, Cadians and Flagellants...well that sounds a bit too complicated to me (this would be my first conversion ever)

How about greenstuffing over their faces and making a sinister visor- all GI Joe Viper-like? That could be pretty cool without too much effort.

I'd definately pick up either a flagellants or marauders box (or both) from the fantasy range to mix in with your cadians. It will give them a wild look and there are several chaosy icons in the marauders box.

I was gonna get the forge world sprues, though I hadn't thought about crossing fantasy over!

I could have my storm troopers as fantasy marauders 40k'd up with the chaos sprues from forgeworld...

though then how would I represent carapace armour - hmmm

I saw some good conversions using the chaos vehicle upgrade sprue. It has some dragon/gargoyle/bull heads to be used as gun muzzles. these were trimmed and fitted to the faces of Kasrkin. You could also add some bayonets using the knives from chaos space marines. battlewagon-bitz.com was a great place for parts but has been taken over by another company so you could track them down.
