Default Witch hunters conversions

I posted this on the witch hunters forum and got no response, so I thought I'd move it over to you guys;

I've been messing about with small pieces of the witch hunters list for about a year now, mainly because I like the style of the models and the renaissance sort of feels to the inquisitors, but I've only attached them to my guard army, but I've decided to go for it.

My idea is that of an extended retinue theme. The fluff often mentions that inquisitors often accumulate retinues of up to 150 followers to accomplish specific tasks, plus the reams of added support from the imperial navy, guard marines and such. So why not try to field this as an army? My fluff plan is that my inquisitor has been working with the imperial guard for many years (partially due to an overabundance of models), and has been siphoning off the best troops for his personnel guard, proceeding to train equip and indoctrinate them for his personal use.

This personal guard would form the basis of the army, and here's the controversial bit. They would be represented by sisters of battle rules.

Conversion wise, I'll use guardsmen with bolters, and added pieces of amour, but with a renaissance feel. I'll be using lot's of empire bits to achieve this, and allot of gold in the colour scheme to suggest the quality of the equipment.

Here's a couple of pictures that I knocked up, unfortunately my digital camera is broken, so I've had to make do with my phone, I'll try and get some decent ones up sometime though. The first is my basic 'sister of battle' Ive done 4 of these now, and the second is a heavier looking chimera I put together for my inquisitor, I've also done a seraphim, but am not sure about it, so will leave that for the minute.

Do these look viable? Or is the scheme a bit hairbrained? Any ideas for improvement?

I like the idea, and the models!

But why not just use them as Inquisitorial Stormtroopers? Is there some reason you're using Sisters rules instead? I guess maybe for the slightly better stat-line and the bolters...makes sense.

They look pretty good, I've got a friend planning on doing a similar thing to ally Sisters with his Grey Knights - but without buying lots of expensive models. I've also thought of doing this too, maybe just as a combat patrol or expansion of my Guard army.

Only thing I'd suggest would be bulking out the armour some more... the shield is a nice touch on the leg, but some scrappy armour (if that's your style) pieced together like platemail would look more fitting to the 3+ save.

Only thing I'd avoid is the big feathery hats, unless you're quite partial to them. They make the models look more like Empire Troops with Lasguns than Witch Hunters.

Are you planning on using Stormtroopers in the list? If so, you may struggle to differentiate them enough from your Guardsmen "Sisters".

I wish I had some cash lying around... the Witch Hunters have always been an army that interests me greatly, but the minis put me off a lot. Glad to see you're getting around that and doing something interesting! Keep up the good work

Sisters of Battle are much much better than a improved stat line and bolters.... faith. And also pure SoB work better than mixed with IG.

Yeah I'm not sure about the feathery hats either but I wanted them to look slightly flamboyant, and i wasn't sure about other heads....

The scrappy bit's of armor sounds like a good idea though yeah, will make them look a bit more heavily equipped.

Faith and bolters. Nail - Head.

And no stormtroopers no. I'll boost numbers with inducted guard. Cheaper, and heavy weapons.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

WEll done, as a man who runs ork guardsmen along with an assortment of other orky tanks and such in my regular guard army(they were running low and men and the orks wanted to fight so why not ally up) you models should and will pass. Keep the converting work consistent and interesting, that is the key. And be sure that everything is WYSIWYG that way there will be no arguments with picky players over whats what. And perhaps the most impotant thing to keep in mind is to tell the person you're player what everything is before the game begins so there are no nasty surprises.

But like i said very nice and cant wait to see more work. Rep for the ambitious project and I can only hope to be able to play against an army as converted and fluffy as yours one day.
