Well I'm still not sure what I am going to do with this thread. Maybe it's a notepad I'm going to leave open for people to see, maybe it will turn into a conversion blog. It might even be a chronicle of my modeling life. Who knows? For starters, I'll just post some things I have done, and ideas that have been stewing in my head. There will be 2 main sections of this journal thing. The first section will be the Feasible Conversions section. This will include conversions I have done, am working on, and will do in the hopefully near future. The section will be the Crack-pipe Conversion and Theories section. In this section I will post random ideas that pop into my head at the spur of the moment. They might be made, they might not see the light of day outside this thread. So lets get started. Feasible Conversions Past conversions of note from beginning to present: My first conversion ever was a standard DA marine with both a bolter and bolt pistol. Only adjustment made was cutting and repositioning the left arm. I then put it away because it was WYSIWYG illegal. I guess when JJ was thinking of stupid ideas for the latest DA codex, he must have seen it in my photobucket =P The paint is crap, but since I'm now an Imperial Fist, he can just rot in that evil unhighlighted DA green. ![]() Next major thing was my Angel of Devestation. Another DA thing, built before they sucked. I took a DA vet with robes and hood, then drilled into it's back and inserted Giant Eagle wings from FB. JB weld is 'da bomb' when you need metal to stick and never come undone. Both arms were cut and repositioned, extended, and sent to hell a few times. Luckily clay is covering the abomination (yes, that stuff on his arms is clay, and I never want to use clay again). Originally he had a sword that I hand carved from a sprue, but since plastic and glue hate me, I switched to a scythe. Shaven sprue pole + older MC scything talon. ![]() I had a few converted kroot shapers that are floating around somewhere on LO. I think the ideas were good, but the material outcome let them down. I hate how every kroot eviscerator is just a chainsword glued to the barrel of a rifle. I decided to go with taking twin chain weapons. There were also some hunter kindred, but they were crap so screw em. ![]() Then my hobby muse died, and I kinda stopped. It was the first year or so of high school (14-15 years old for those of you who don't use US school system), and friends and sports were troublesome. It 40k bug infected me after a few months though. Damn you long car rides with only codex's to read! This is when I learn how to paint a little better. Before I didn't notice highlighting, and drybrushing was my only technique. This isn't converting though, so I'll drop this mini topic. After years of asking around local hobby shops, I enter the shop that focuses on magic cards, and I notice a strange new box near the 40k junk. It had a strip of yellow, and a strip of blue, and I almost shout in joy. My first box of green stuff! After 3-5 years of searching, I get my first box. Door open, and I could do stuff I hadn't even dreamed of. Cut too deep with the x-acto? Fill 'er right up with a blob of GS. Gigantic gap? Just slab it on, and cut off the excess material. And now I'm babbling and off-topic. Back to conversions. I start off easy by making a few DIY trait marines. Snake in the Grass chapter. There is a blog somewhere in LO, hidden behind pages and pages of better things. The basic marine just had 3 slabs of GS to give a snake belly appearance. The vet sarge has a powerfist cobra. Fun idea, but I got bored with it. This should have been saved for the crack-pipe section, but I accidentally jumped into the project without thinking it through. ![]() ![]() Then I found a modeling material called ProCreate, and I could do so much more. Unlike GS, it can be sanded smooth after drying. For some reason, I was drawn to DA once again, but this time to their Fallen side. I think I made the mistake of reading the Unforgiven short story due to extreme boredom. I wanted to make one, but I wanted it to be unique. I stumbled onto a thread about Havoks made from FB chaos warriors. The idea was sheer genius, and i had to steal it . Just kidding, I asked the owned if I could use his idea, and he said yeah. PS thank you Rabbit, you're awesome!I seem to have lost the final picture of it though, so no pic this time. Sorry. Instead, I shall show you what rabbit has done. (yeah, thanks rabbit, you changed the pics so the thread has dead pic links, and it took 10 minutes of digging through your massive photobucket album to find them) ![]() Entered one of the old LO painted contests, and spent 3 weeks converting, and 2 days painting. Big mistake. It was great fun though, I miss those contests. I know the metallics suck, but then again I had no chance. MinusT was destined to win that one. ![]() ![]() Then I started a Fallen commander, and gave him long hair. ![]() And into the past half year, I did a Master of the arsenal for my current WIP army: ![]() I fell in love with an online graphic novel called Immortal Enemies, so I had to make the Ork character, Kaptain Zed. Nearly a full sculpt, it took weeks of GS work. I posted it on LO, the Immortal Enemies site, and The-Waagh. LO thought it needed more muscle, IE loved it, and the-waagh hated it. Oh well, I still learned from it. ![]() And my latest conversion thing, a plague marine. I got bored, played with GS and bits, and created a fun project. Things of note: The helmet has received a lot of attention. Just simple drilling for hours, cutting up catachans, and glue go a long way. It will be sent to my LOexchange partner. Sorry for the delay. I hate painting small details. ![]() ![]() Well that is it for past projects. Sorry to anybody who actually reads the crap I write. I ramble on and on, because lately my threads get ignored. It sucks, but I know it happens. If you think your thread is being ignored, imagine how hard it was for me to make something the same time Gareth does a female tau with cleavage. Or the same time Leech presents his latest work of art scorpio-fex. Oh yeah, and there was a spawn model... but that was the first GS thing ever, and I sort of regret doing it. ![]() Well I was going to start posting the Crack-Pipe Conversion and Theories section, but this lengthy post has taken a long time to compose. It's 5:33 am and I need sleep. Teaser: Scythes of the Emperor facing off against the big daddy of their greatest enemy. (Luckily not everyone knows about this chapter, so only a few should figure out what the heck I'm talking about)

I saw that orc on the waagh ages ago it seems. Did you ever finish it? I love the concept and want to see it finished, painted, and displayed like it should be!

OOOOO, look at all that stuff ! I did actually read all the stuff you wrote. I think my favourite of the lot is the Plague marine . I have seen him before and he is good, or gross, well made though. I like the Kroot too. I like your way of doing the big chainsaw choppy thing I can't remember how to spell. That yellow Terminator guy is off to a good start with his paint job. Painting yellow can be pain. I can see why you wanted to steal that idea of using Chaos warrior parts, those Havocs look very good. I steal ideas from time to time too, and people steal mine too which is OK. Your Spawn works in that he seems to have moment in him. All you would need to do with him is to make his cloak look all, cloaky! I wonder what your crack-head-dream stuff will be like? The scythes of the Emperor were smeared by Hive fleet Kraken to my knowledge along with the Lamenters. Though who the big daddy of thier worst enemy is? I am not sure.

I like it all! I mean for what they are and your explanations! Also, I liked that Plague Marine a ton! and the Ork was funny too.

Well it's almost 2 in the afternoon, and I'm finally awake. Leech ruined the surprise everyone. If we could still negative rep, I'd push for a mega neg hit on you Leech. /sarcasm Crack-Pipe Conversions and Theories Yes, SotE were nearly wiped out by Hive Fleet Kraken when they were still at large. I would point out though that the Lamenters were not at the same planet though. I'm sure you know this, but others might not. As for the tyranid he will be facing, I suggest anyone with the ForgeWorld IA book Anphelion Project (or whatever the nid one is) to open the page to the winged tyrant artwork. The cooler looking tyrant with the warrior style head crest. For those who haven't seen it, it's a big ol' tyrant crouching in a predatory stance, wings curled, snarling, and colored in a cool natural mix of browns, yellows, and greens. For some reason, this picture has sparked my imagination. It has made me want to make a diorama, make a tyranid hunter SotE squad (which would soon be illegal), and write a piece of fluff on it for the LO 40k fluff contest. For anyone who has seen the info for SotE on the lexicancan site, you'll find a bit about how the Master of the Chapter held off a Tyrant while the rest of the remaining chapter evacuated the planet. You will also see something about how he gave his scythe to the new master, but ignore that. In this diorama, I plan to have the warrior hunched over the dead captain, and having the Company Champion issuing a challenge. I was thinking crouched, leaning over, with arms spread. Note: I've spend 20 minutes of digging through Conversion and Pictures of the day, and I can't seem to find a good example. I hope your imagination is good, because the example is amazing (it's gray, arms spread, and has extensive battle damage painted on if you have already seen it). My second crack-pipe idea is actually a WIP. At the end of last summer, I fell in love with the conversions of a user knows as Synapse. He made a batch of Pre Heresy World Eater marines, and made them true-scale. Note to moderators: I know the pic is a little over sized, but please don't turn it into a link. The awesomeness of these models cannot be compressed into a blue link that will go unnoticed. ![]() I had already started a Fallen dark angel commander, based off this artwork (from where I cannot remember) ![]() In my first post you can see the back of my models head. The helmet was too cool though, so I decided to make on that will go on the base somewhere. ![]() And here was the front of his armor. ![]() This was all started before I found Synapse's work, which moved me. Unlike him though, I plan on making one marine for every first founding legion. The order in which I will make them will be based on urges and spur of the moment ideas. I bought a box of assault terminators, and got to work. ![]() ![]() Since then I have covered the legs in ProCreate, because my latest box of GS (from GW this time) is crap and has little speckles in it. For his weapons I will be arming him with a combi-plasma (best armory of all the legions for the win) and a MASSIVE broadsword. ![]() ![]() ..but then, tragedy stuck. My thunder hammers and storm shields sprue went missing. I've had to delay the project since then because I don't want to throw $50 into a new box, just to have another 5 bodies with no arms. But I did think up some ideas for other legions. For a World Eater, I was thinking something bloody and gruesome to the max. I would need to find myself a CoD wall plate and an extra cadian body. I was contemplating positioning the model so that the World Eater had lifted the human by the head, and smashed it into the wall. I can't think of any better way of portraying a World Eater. For an Emperors Children, I was going to put it in the time frame of the Siege of Terra. For those of you who don't know much about 40k, during the Siege most major Heretical Legions were on the battle lines trying to break through the holy walls. With a major exception of two. The Night Lords, who were busy building a place of living bodies on a planet whose name starts with a T (but not Terra), and the Emperors Children. The EC were indeed on Terra, but they were conducting their own separate affairs. They were among the civilian population, doing things that GW really doesn't describe in detail. The only thing they really like to mention is that they 'harvested' the people to make combat drugs. For my conversion, I plan have an EC standing tall, in his purple and gold glory, with a naked girl over his shoulder. I have yet to sculpt a human body, so this might take a few tries. From the front you will see legs to mid back, a pretty aquilla in gold on his chest, and an elegant sword (with a tiny hint of red on the edge). From behind you will see blood dripping down his shoulders and back from his captive. Pretty sinister, but I think it also captures the spirit of the Emperors Children. I just need to make sure that nobody outside of the hobby sees it ![]() I still need to think up ideas for the other legions. I wouldn't mind if people say a few of their ideas here. I think out of spite, I might make an Iron Warrior for danjones, and have him making a sand castle (inside joke). Once again, thanks to anyone who even skims these lengthy posts. I kind of took a break while writing this to read the end of Lord of the Night. Great book, and I recommend it to anyone who has a slight interest in 40k. It also has given me an idea of how to do the Night Lord marine, but I'll post that later. It's not 5:32, and I require food.

Ah yes I only bought The Anphelion Project for all the niddy info inside =). The artworks in there really are awesome, and I can get a visualisation of what you are planning to do with it. I have little doubt that you can pull off such a creation if you can get yourself to finish it, so please do as I reckon it would look awesome . Also liking the ideas about the pre-heresy marines before they went and joined chaos for whatever reason, should be interesting to see your takes on each of these and your ideas sound rather good. Will be looking forward to see what comes out of your mind next =D.

I think I said it wrong. I meant to say they are Heresy marines. As for other stuff... Feasible Projects I will be making Vostroyan Bear Cavalry as a commission to a LO member. I have yet to start though, because the bear will most likely be sculpted. Wish me luck, or find me a proportioned model. Crack-Pipe Projects The Night Lord will be a raptor, based heavily off of a scene from the Lord of the Night book. For those who have yet to read it, Raptors originated from the NL legion. The army fights through fear and shadow. It's probably a suicide attempt, but this model will focus on Source Lighting. The NL itself will be hunched over, ready to pounce. It will be a diorama, and on the floor there will be a flashlight. Here's an example (taken from Rabbit's amazing Pictures of the Day thread) ![]() The flashlight will be much closer to the model though. The only parts of his body that will be visible will be the left side of his limbs, so legs and arms. The point being that you'll never really see him, and he's only revealing his claws/talons to frighten you. By you, I mean the poor guardsmen cowering in the corner. Everything not visible in light will be painted in very dark gray/brown colors. So the armor will be a mix of blue and black, and the lightnings patterns will be done in codex gray. The only other thing of note in the painting process will be his red glowing eyes. I will follow a tutorial made my a fellow known as Dominus Ex Machina on BnC, except use reds and yellows instead of greens. Here is the result of his work: ![]() And for another crazy idea, I require the help of Karmoon. I've helped him in a conversion project, and he still owes me. When I get around to Alpha Legion ideas, you'd better pull some conversion magic out of your cactus sleeves =P
