    Desert plants for bases

    Hi guys

Having a bit of a problem making authentic-looking "desert"-themed bases for my O&G army.

Anybody have any ideas about how I can make realistic-looking desert vegetation (I'm thinking sort of like cactuses and stuff, the kind of plants you see in spaghetti westerns and such).

    Cheers for any help.

Although I did not do this for any figure bases - it was for a long ago school project, but I used green pipe cleaners for small cactus and they looked perfect. The fuzzy stuff made them look very prickly. Easy to bend and shape. I suppose you could always just spray paint them if you can't find them in the color you want.

There are a few good cacti/desert plants on this site.

As seen on Ravendove's Sons or Orar thread. Here (Ravendove's Sons of Orar)

Thanks guys - I found a pack of desert plants in a little hobby store in town but they're a bit rubbish. I'll see what the Pegasus ones are like.

A few desert animals may help. Things like a sandy coloured snake or a scorpion. Think of things you would expect to see in a desert. A few bones of dead travellers may help too. I think that desert bases will go easier if you can give the idea the ground has no moisture and it hot. Use only colours like warm, light browns for rocks and that variety of static grass that is all light pale yellow and dead looking.

If you have trouble finding yellowy static grass, put the usual type on. Wait until the glue is dry then srpay the base with varnish (which will seal the grass and make it go rigid instead of "furry" then drybrush it with bleached bone )
