Space Marine Champion advise

First off, Thanks everyone for the comments! I really appreciate you guys taking the time to respond!

And in response, yes, I did go a bit crazy with the purity seals, and the idea behind having them would be pointless (super heated metal and wax arent a good mix!) but the idea behind it was to just make something (with the lack off tools and great abundance of sprues at my availability) really cool I guess....

But I do want to greatly improve apon this. I liked the idea of modeling the purity seals to flow with the cloak. But more or less, now I'm faced with the question of how to paint it. Make him look new and fresh, or ornate, weathered, and possibly battle damaged/hardened. I have a bit to consider with this piece, and I have already thought of plans for another one. But it would be something similar to this, minus the shield and pistol (it is a bit much), but 2x as many purity seals!.... give or take!!


If I had access to a knife, exacto blade, file, or green stuff, then I would have really gone to town with this, but bottom line is, I'm free to do that now. I hope to finish this before the next gamesday and enter it in the golden daemon (a whole year away!!) or failing that, fly out to the Chicago one in the summer.

Again, thanks for the comments, critisizm (all of which is constructive!), and advice. I hope to post pics of the process to a very wishful golden demon canidate (aka, I suck and will probably ask for help/tips)

Um... I know its kinda weird to comment on this, but this is the warhammer 40,000 Conversion Contest winner of the 2005 LA Gamesday.

Like some of the others said, it's just a bit busy and too much. I like the two-sided sword, but throwing in the shield and bolt pistol (at least having him holding them both at the time) does seem a bit much. I don't mind the purity seals on the actual body, but the ones on the sword are a bit much. Anyway, my first impression was that it was awesome, so good luck with it!

thts an awesome model, i like the whole 2 swords thing, you do have a bit to many purity seals, but mabye just a couple over,

its an awesome model tho, i really like it, and if its ok with you ill make mine sortof like that (mainly just the 2 swords thing)

lol, sure! Its not like ive copy written the whole 2 sided sword thing....

I'm also in the planning process of making a whole squad of these guys! I am however going to have to drop either the shield or the pistol, both is just too much!

So heres the question: Should the blade count as having an invulnerable save in CC like the Honour blades of the Ultramarine Champion of the Honour Guard? That way, it can be paired with a pistol? Or just have the sword (maybe mastercrafted) paired with a shield?

Or getting really crazy into it, resurect the old rules for the emperor's champion black sword which had the capability of being used 2 handed or one handed, but instead of the option for power fist capability, maybe including a form of invulnerable save or something (little pattern, i like having saves on my models!)
