Default New Defilers

I run a pair of Defilers in my 40k Slaanesh army. I despise these models. They often break during transport even with pinsetting and the legs make the model either to small or to big a target. I also think it looks very ugly and un-graceful, which is my armies theme.

I had the idea to use Whirlwinds in place of Defilers because they are much sturdier and have a more compact feel. The missile launchers are removeable for transport and act as the Defilers Battle Cannon. I now have two potential problems: A. I need to put either a Heavy Bolter/Heavy Flamer and a Reaper Autocannon on the vehicle somehow and B. It needs to look still slightly demonic.

For making it look demonic I've seen modelling chain over the back hatch made to look bolted on with green stuff to act as restraints for the demon inside, but I still think something more over the top would be cool. Possibly something to show it's ability to fight in CC. I'd really appreciate any and all ideas.

If you've got some cash, why not try sticking a big cannon on a dread body? It'd still obviously be a walker, and has convienient spots to put the other weapons (the arms). If you're up to it, you could even give it multiple sets of dread legs, like this one:

please refrain from the use of profanity.

yes well i have seen many chaos players complain about this. I recomend reconstructing the body to not include those massive front armys and make it more like a dog as opposed to an insect. that should trim off some of the size ( ie. the legs and arms wont be flailing all over the place and it wont be so wide) and make it easier to transport (on its side) So there u go.

However it still have to retain its vehical size. YOU CAN NOT make it the size of a dreadnought that would very unsportsman like.

The dread base isn't much smaller than a defiler if the defiler has his legs tucked in (which many people do just so it doesn't get crazy). A lot of players back home just didn't count the defiler legs as part of the vehicle for targeting/movement purposes anyways. Sort of like having a model with arms sticking way out over the base.

Besides, if its well done, only the cheese-mongers will argue. I'd rather face a nicely modeled/painted army that isn't 100% proppa size (provided you don't do things like make a custom Land raider the size of a bike) than one that looks like crap and is stock models.

actually your problem is very common in where i play (my gaming club) and alot of people have made some very interesting conversions.

1. used a whilwind model (like you)
- Deamon: has used a chaos marine stuck to the front and has green stuffed it to make it look like the vehicle is trying to suck the poor unsuspecting marine into the hull of the vehicle.

- Battle Cannon: was modelled with the middile pod. but to make it look more interesting there are tentacles and such oozing out of some of the holes.

- Add Weapons: he has modelled the flmaer where the stormbolter would be and has somehow managed to stick the auto cannon to one side of the whilwind and then greenstuffed that in to make it look like flesh.

there are also Khorne forgeworld doors on 1 side because the other are to converted that it would of been a waste to use them..

i should really take a pic of it next time im down. its a masterpiece in modern technology.

2. others have just used the legs of the original defiler (pinned and loctite) and then used there Green Stuff expertise and worked from there.

3. Vice versa used the torso of the defiler and Green Stuffed the legs.!

The choice is yours..

if you want to model it like that, why not just put some holes in it, srick some arms in there, like the deamon or dragon arms, adn model the tank hull so it looks like it was busted from the inside, adn put chains on the spot that spot, to look like they were trying to contain it

Buy a rhino and a defiler then take the hull and mount it on the rhino in the middle. Possibly magnetize the bottom of the hull for transportation purposes. if you want to put one of the claws in the left weapon socket.
