Default Pre-painted?

I was curious as to what everyone's opinions on this were. When I hear "pre-painted miniatures," I automatically tend to think "poor quality, ugly paint jobs, lack of customization." Is this going to be the same in PP's new game?

Your thoughts.

To me it feels like if cutting one part of the hobby away.
Modelling and painting is my biggest enjoyment-aspect of Warhammer and losong out on it would feel kind of crippering.
Though if you're not into it, well then it's always a nice step to get rid off...

That's what I think too, and looking at the game and its content, I don't think it's going to be any different. Shame, too, as those could have been some very fun models.

One has to remember that this is not a hobby miniature wargame, and it is not intended for us who like to paint & convert.
It is a collectible miniature game aimed at the younger folks and those who don't want to paint and such.

Default Apples and Oranges

Everything I've seen related to Monsterpocalypse suggests it's far less like Warmachine or Warhammer, and far more similar to the Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures, Mageknight, or similar games with pre-painted and assembled miniatures.

Now, what I'm trying to figure out is why they think this is a good market to get into. Granted, there are a few successful games from this genre, but most of them have been dismal flops. Remember Dreamblade? Yeah, that sure took the world by storm, didn't it?

I'd even go as far to claim that the main reason D&D minis, Mageknight and Heroclix were successful wasn't because of the game, but because of their collectability, usefulness as miniatures in roleplaying games, and inbuilt fanbase.

I can't help but think monsterpocalypse would have worked better if it were scaled down in size and made a boardgame. In fact, that board looks a lot like a boardgame, doesn't it?

When you cut the modeling aspect out of the game, and section off the board into squares, you might as well be playing a boardgame, or CCG.

I don't know if you guys had seen this but Monsterpocalypse : Home is up. I don't like the look of it myself, the miniatures aren't my style - and the game itself seems much less a hobby, much more a kid's board game.

Whats wrong with getting the models, and then repainting them yourself? Even maybe adding things from other models, greenstuff, etc?

Firstly the models themselves aren't quite my thing, and secondly it's just not quite the same

Not too much different than buying an army or some miniatures of e-bay, is it? It seems a lot of people don't mind that.

Then again, I haven't really seen any Monsterpocalypse miniatures. Or read anything about the game. So I have no idea how it works, how good the models are, etcetera.

Still, from a theoretical standpoint, if I ever did get into a pre-painted miniatures game... I think, if I bought I model, I would buy it because I liked the look of it and liked the paintjob. So I probably wouldn't repaint it. Or convert it much.

Unless I had a really good idea, that is!

Well pre-painted can mean some things, it depends on the people they have painting them. If they can do a good job it will generally be alright even without the added customization factor.

Back when I played Star Wars Minis they all came prepainted, and the paint jobs were always great, but not spectacular, but well above tabletop quality. They were still easily convertable, and thats where I got my feet wet in repositioning miniatures and using epoxy to fill in gaps. Many people repainted the minis if they thought they could do a better job (which im sure most of you could do for these).

Either way, it wont totally take away the customizability, just limit it to those who really want to do it (and cut out the factor of those who make a bad paint job and quit out of the game because of that).
